I think it could hit the trail today. But this is the short list for the next big trip

Want:
Locker for the front
Gears
4.0 swap or FI of some sort

Need:
Seats that are a little taller/ not almost 40 years old
Fix the dash so it shows my speed and lights up.
Steering- needs new everything
Headlights
Wire up the light bar
Wire up the electric FP and add a switch to the dash to run it

Nothing to crazy

Awesome, all very doable before EJS. After it cools down (in December lol) I want to do some trails around here for shake down runs.. I would REALLY like to run Red Creek again with the CJ.

Been driving the Cherokee to work for the last week. Other than steering is sloppy and it has no AC, its been good. It does fine keeping up with traffic and nothing is smoking or rubbing as far as I can tell. It has started to get a little bit of a leak but nothing bad.
It 100% needs some new seats. Those seats are hot and all broke down.

Replaced the headlights this weekend. I didn't go with the LED/HID. Just new lights and new plug ends. It seems to have helped. It also helped fixing the lazy eye my jeep had. Found that the jeep had been hit at some point. Bondo and broken mounts... No big deal but there is only one adjustment bolt for the light.

Spent some time under the jeep looking for leaks. I have one that just showed up at the oil pan. I cleaned everything and made sure it was tight. Ill check it again after putting some miles on it. Tans is a little wet as well but not enough to make me do anything about it.

Been driving the jeep and its still running strong. It is pushing a little oil out the cover over 60mph. Other than that It needs new steering.

Idea for my spare tire mount- I have an old axle shaft that has the 6 lug mounting plate pressed on. What if I were to press that off the shaft and then have it welded to some tube and attached to my cage. It gets my tire standing up and secured. Im not seeing a down side but that's why Im posting.

Just keep the wheel stud part for the mounting
#92
Could you sell it, for more than a mount?
If not, it seems like a good idea. Just cut it off.

Not worth anything but scrap

No reason it wouldn't work!

Took the jeep out this weekend. It did good for what it is. The exhaust got real bad this time. It kept pumping it in the jeep. I'm not sure what changed for it to get this bad, but I need to fix it. Had a leaf start moving but I think that was just a loose U bolt. Steering is a mess. It was a white knuckle ride on any curve at speed. The biggest thing is that I think the 4.2 is eating oil. Either that or its got a leak that magically stops when I pull in my drive.

The list for Moab is growing.
I need:
Headlight and headlight bucket
Fix exhaust.- broken hanger and add pipe to get exhaust out from under jeep.
Steering- Needs the frontend rebuilt
Dash- fix gages and lights
Spare Mount- Mount tire up and out of the way.
Hood- Hood Pins
Bolt check- everything

Update
It sounds a little counter productive to be putting $ into an engine that will be pulled in the next few months... However with Moab in March I want to make sure the jeep is ready. I had new PS hoses added since the old ones were sucking air and causing dead spots when I turn. While it was there the mechanic did a compression test because in his words "Wow this thing is a dog". Compression was good but the plugs weren't so new plugs and some carb play. He said it runs better but its still a dog.
I also had the water pump replaced since it had a wobble to it. It wasn't leaking or making noise but better safe than sorry.

Ordered up all new steering and will be installing that this weekend.

Picked up a set of Beard race seats and will get those installed soon.

Installed some hood pins so that I don't need to open it with a screwdriver

Ordered up some LED cubes to install as rock lights.

Picked up a new head unit, speakers, and fuse block. With all the new lights and other electronics I wanted to make sure that it wasn't just a mess of wires running to the optima.

Moab is only about 2 months out so I will need to get cracking soon.

Stupid Jeep... I need to find an old school garage or hot rod guy that can work a carb. Jeep keeps falling on its face and dies when I try to get into traffic. I hate the jeep today....

Lopers? Are they still around? They had the equipment to check my carb setup on the '69 bird. It definitely never fell on it's face.
