Lost 3rd gear in the Jeep last night. Drove it to the Gym last night to show off the new custom bodywork and it will not shift past 2nd.
Also noticed that my speedo is dead.

TJ drivetrain swap? Hmmmmmm

Bummer :/ an inline 6 would look good in that thing....

I think there is a shifter under the floor board

Not sure what I want to do at this point.
Jeep needs a bunch of work and stuff to make it a wheeler.
As of now it has a 44/20 for axles. If I build this to be a reliable wheeler I need to swap the rear axle. But its hard to find a widetrack 44 rear.
Even if I do find a 44 that fits its $400 for shafts and another $300 or so for a locker and if I am doing a locker I need to do gears...
Front is the same thing but $800 for shafts.

Do I look for pre built full width 60 or 44 front and a 14 rear?

Bumpers- about $450 per end

Sliders- $400

Trans- I have no 3rd gear. Could be a linkage issue or I could need a rebuild. At that point do I start looking for a 4.0/aw4 out of a newer jeep to swap in?

Steering- Need a full rebuild

Like I said, the jeep need some work and Im not sure what to do with it.

why not just fix whats broke - keep it as intended with hunting camping rig and then buy a dedicated rock one that has most things done already?
#66
The broke stuff is what I was looking at...
Steering is shot- Fix for a $300 or upgrade for $550?
Would like a locker for one end or another and a little more crawl power = gears.
33's or 35's make that rearend the weak link.
I don't need new bumpers...
I do kinda need some sliders or something.. sorta

Getting another rig and owning 5 cars again isn't going to happen.

Making it dependable for what you want to do with is has to happen, regardless of what you want to do.. other wise you'll just hate it and then sell it.

The motor runs okay for now, yes? If so... focus on the axles, steering, tires... you can live without bumpers and sliders for a long time. While that's happening, keep on the look out for a cheap motor that's ready to drop in, or rebuild. 4.0s are easy to find.

I'd say look for everything, pre built, or wide track... see what one pops up first for a good price and let that make the decision for you.

Before all of that, make sure this is the jeep you want to do that with..

What is the same to SMS on a widetrack? Would a jk axle fit?

I agree, focus on the musts first. If the motor mount is done, the steering should be next.

65" JK wouldn't work

MM and Alt will be first. Need to see if the shop will fix the linkage issue since its all messed up from the MM ripping out. If not that will be 2nd on the list. Then the Front DS will be next. Steering will be after that.

What all needs to be done to make this Moab ready Bob?
#71
MM
Shift link
PS-
fab up a gas tank holder.

It would be fine for moab like that. I would also like to fix the winch.
#72
Bob, I still have axles in my garage if interested.
