2013 year of the Rubicon - Sat Aug 31st - Sat Sept 7th
#61
Still planning on making this, my plan is to pull the dodge, so we'll have to figure out where we are exiting the trail in relation to where the tow rigs will be.. and hopefully it will work out where on the way home or something we can swing by where they are to load up, or if Alan wants to KOH the rubicon back to the tow rigs, we can both just meet up with everyone somewhere and I can load there as I will have two drivers.

Been working on the list of things to do for the trip. I would like to knock out some of the small stuff each month.

To do list for the Rubicon
The Must do list:
Check eng light (could be an evap canister)
Tires- Need bigger tires for this trip.
Axel- need to fix leaks and replace the bushings or find great deal on 60โ€™s
Sliders- Need to talk to lost offroad
Sleeping platform for bed of the truck- This will give me a place to sleep and something to hide my food/tools. Parts under.
All new u-joints in the shafts and driveshafts

Wants:
Locker
Another 2โ€ of lift
Rear shocks
More to come

So I know we have a week blocked out for Calendaring purposes, but what's the more realistic days we are looking at (kind of a per day break down). I organized KOH, so I'm just an attendee on this one. LOL

I have emails out to a few people that have run the trail to see whats good for camping on the trail, places to stop, where to park the tow rigs... I will update as I get info

I wanted to make sure people were clear on the days and dates.

We would leave AZ on Sat Aug 31st. We can do 8-10 hours and grab a place for the night or drive the 14-16 hours. I have 2 days of travel time listed and planed on. I was told "stay near Bishop the first night and then make it to Loon the second"
We hit the trail from Loon Lake (park tow rigs here) and then start a slow run over the con. It should take 3 days but pack for 4 days.
Camp at Buck Island the first night then Rubicon Springs the second. Up Cadillac Hill and out to Tahoe the third (or start the drive back to the tow rigs staying on the con).
Depending on rig conditions (does it still run and drive?) we will start the drive home on Friday. I plan on driving the 16 hours home and not spending the night unless there is a need for it. We should be home on Sat night at the latest.
This will give you a day to recover.

Questions so far?

is this strictly wheeling or are there hike spots or fishing along the way? do we have camp sites laid out?

Good question. This is a wheeling trip. A slow moving wheeling trip. You are welcome to hike up the side of the hill but I dont believe there is a "there is a cool hike over here" place on the trail.

Fishing. I have been told that the fishing is awesome!!!! Stream and lake trout.

Camp- there is no set camp sites on the trail. The rule is to be no more than 50 feet (I think) off the center of the trail. We will camp at Camp at Buck Island the first night then Rubicon Springs the second. Buck Island is the lake you see in almost all the rubicon pics. Swimming and fishing and a fire are a must.

Yeah its not a long trail but there are lots of rocks to climb and views to take in.

I'm not going to be able to make this...:-( Family trip does not give enough vacation time. I still can contact a buddy of mine who lives just East of Tahoe. It's a perfect base for making this trip. PM me if interested. Also, remember to bring portable toilets....buckets with lids.

Just talking to my dad about the drive up and how annoying/expensive it'll be driving that far in California and he suggested to just go up through Las Vegas and up the 95.. Just a thought. Minimal driving in Cali which means no gay 55 mph speed limit.. And maybe cheaper gas

Sounds like a good plan Avis

Thinking enter from the Tahoe side and drive down to loon lake or do the trail from the tahoe side?
#78
For those of us towing our rigs up, we could research a place to leave our tow rigs on the lake tahoe side, and drive our trail rigs (assuming everyones trail rigs are street worthy...not sure who all is bring what) to the loon lake entrance and drive the trail back to out tow rigs. Only one I see that being an issue for is Alan if he trailers up his jeep..
#79
Let me email a few guys and see where they park the rigs on the tahoe side.
This could work

Were in. I got a lot to do before this trip. Got an entire rig to build. So stoked.
