Well Im going to try and get my trailer registered so I can take it along on the trip.

I too would like to leave on Fri, but wouldnt be able to till 4-5pm & I agree with offroadaz dont want to fight traffic (& lose my religon) nor try to find everyone in the dark.
BUT wouldnt mind following some one early Sat. am to where everyone will be.

I think so, but check online to verify.

I was told that we will not need passes. I'm leaving on Sat and I thought we were meeting at CB on I-17 at 8am

depends on where you stop if you need the permit or not. I know some areas up there dont require one, but for $20 for a year I thought itd be good insurance rather then a fine/ticket

Yep ill be there Saturday morning. Do you want to grab breakfast and then head out after that? Would make it a later start, maybe 9ish OR do you want to get breakfast around 7am and leave at 8?

Au contraire

When is a Red Rock Pass Required?

A Red Rock Pass (or Golden Eagle, Golden Age or Golden Access) is required when recreating on National Forest land in Red Rock Country, a high-impact recreation area. The pass must be displayed in the windshield of the vehicle.

Vehicles parked on the National Forest in the red rock area that do not display a valid pass in the windshield are subject to receiving a citation.

A pass is not required for incidental stopping to take a photograph or to enjoy a scenic vista (approximately 15 minutes or less).

Okay so where do you want to camp.

1. Harding Point overlooks the East Fork of Oak Creek Canyon (if I could throw out far enough, I could hit the spot that Jonathan proposed to Dana at). On that little cartoon map I posted, vista point 1 has a great large area under the pines to camp. You could look out of the camp and see the canyon and the sun coming up over it. (I'm sorry the sky was overcast)

Disclaimer: Don't do this

2. Fry Park, just down the road, is a huge meadow surrounded by forest. The people we saw there nestled up in the trees on the edge. From certain spots, you can clearly see the Snow Bowl.

Apparently, it's where rainbows are made. We literally saw this rise from the ground.

I say fry only because its a bigger area for the kids and I dont have to worry about Tegan jumping off the side.

More pix to whet your appetite!
Both Harding Point and the meadow are gorgeous, and they are probably less than half a mile apart. If we have kids in tow the meadow would probably make the women folk feel safer.

I can see the whole kid angle.
If I were by myself, I'd camp on the vista, but I don't mind camping in the meadow for this group.

I won't be able to tell you where we'll be or what trails, if any (there's only two and they only take an hour each), will be left by 2:30pm in the afternoon.

We've had a change in plan as well, but it only affects the camping part.

My son and I will be meeting in the AM (actually a little early so we can eat at Cracker Barrel...) then ride with everyone, do trails, and head back early afternoon. (I have to prove to Nate my grocery getter will climb a rock or two, plus a little quality time with the boy is always good!!!)

As far as trails, one of the options was to take Schnebly (granted, glorified dirt road, but supposed to be really great for pictures), plus do Soldier Pass and Broken Arrow, so there might be a little left for Chris. Besides, it's going to take 4 hours for Paul to get up the mountain anyway! (Just kidding, Paul. I know it will take 5 hours. Just trying to make you feel better.)

So, on the camping total, take out the four of us. We didn't vote on camping location, so that isn't skewed.

Thanks!
Alan

Drawing the mod line. Let's move on.

I am upset to put it lightly, but we'll see how it all pans out.
