2013 AR source?
#1
My Louisiana brother won't stop bugging me asking questions on how to go about getting a good AR now that "supplies are being depleted."

He tried all of James' helpful forum links including the Special Ops Tactical and the build it yourself finds but everything is backed up and or no orders being taken.

Any new suggestions, 2ndchance?

Walmart. They sell ARs now, too. Gunbroker.com. Local classified ads. Any gun shop can order them. Any big box gun shop should stock them.

Either way, he's going to need a condom and Vasaline. Prepare to bend over and take it like a prison bitch.

If he can't find a complete gun, have him search for a stripped receiver. Most can be had for around $100 or less. NOTE: Do NOT buy one that is marked "PISTOL". He cannot build a rifle out of it!!!

www.rguns.net is a good source. Only $99 for a receiver that has some nice pictograms on the selector. The receiver is a serial numbered item so it will need to be shipped to an FFL dealer for transfer to him.

Once a receiver has been obtained, a AR kit can be purchased from www.model1sales.com Kits run around $550 for a traditional M4 rifle. The kit can be shipped directly to his house.

Done!

If he's into customizing his AR, he can buy a partially assembled lower, then buy a custom upper (like the Adams Arms piston upper).

Rguns has this for $160.00. A very good deal. Looks like you can choose between Black, Olive Drab, or Matte Sand color. Also, stainless trigger group or parkerized carbon steel. It's good to have options!

I think this is the best deal of them all. Buy a fully assembled lower for $205 or one that is dressed out with Magpul MOE grip and stock for $245.

They let you place the order online, and that gets you on their build list. They are backlogged, due to high interest. Still, better to be on the "paid" list than be left holding nothing. The rest of the AR can wait for a bit... those price should NOT be going up within the next 6 months. Oh, BUY MAGAZINES! Hi cap, the better. THOSE will be like GOLD in a year or two! Mags run $10-15 each. They will hit $50.00 when the ban kicks in. That's a $1000 profit!

MARK MY WORDS!

Ha Ha! I got myself all worked up writing up the last post... I ended up ordering two complete lowers. Investment!

Would you do the colt or magpul? Was going ot order up some extra 30rd mag

I would avoid the brand "C Products" and any foreign made mags except german. Magpul Pmags are popular and have a wonderful reputation. There are many good ones out there.

I would buy only quality mags for two reason.

1. They can justify big $$$.
2. If the ban doesn't happen, I can still sell them easily, because they are quality mags.

I did invest in some cheaper mags but they were cheap enough that if I took a hit on them, it would not hurt.

If investing, don't limit yourself to just AR mags. Popular handgun mags are worth buying, too.

AK mags of "any" make are cheap. Especially surplus mags. Small investment for better than average returns. Kind like buying penny stocks.

Thank for the advice, James.

My brother panicked this morning and bought a new one at a pawn shop. He wouldn't tell me what he paid...

Isn't Virgil a FFL holder? I recall he said that in one of Chris' posts about building/selling ARs.

Hate to say it, but if ya snooze, ya loose. Sorry.

Don't me to rub salt on your wound but, me and a few buddies places our multiple orders early last week. Without actually paying for it yet, since it's on backorder, we've already netted a 15% return on our investment. :))

Brownells.com has receivers for $84.99. Again, on backorder, but they are accepting orders. You'll need to mail in a FFL to receive it. Most FFL agents have their FFL on file with Brownells, though. Again, it's on backorder, so you can order them and it won't charge your card until they ship to your FFL agent.

Only for antiques / collectors firearms, doesn't allow him to buy-sell like a business
