6:30am - Depart Carefree Hwy gas station.
I think Paul was going to ride shotgun with me in the JK. Back seat is open.
The plan is to go up off Tonto and Fair Oaks road and scout or hike in hopefully locating javelina.
Bring your binoculars, spotting, scope, and lunch.

Meetup time changed to 6:30am.

Areas: Fair Oaks Road (FS 85). This road provides access to a huge amount of good javelina habitat. It does pass through some private property, however, so be sure to watch for “posted” areas and ask permission where applicable.

Tonto Road (FS 102). Hunt east of this road towards Granite Mountain Wilderness. Once again, be aware of areas of private land.

I also got a few new toys.

The cats really liked my knife.

My spotting scope sucked last trip out. Picked up a pair of Bushnell 10x50 binoculars and really like them.

I also went to the range on Saturday and got my rifle zeroed in at 100 yards. I could probably do better, but this was close enough. The first few shots are the low ones and you can see where I adjusted the scope right and up.

Then I took it out to 200 yards. The first 2 shots were way low. I only raised it 1 tick mark on the scope. The 3rd shot hit about 3-4 inches low and was raised 2 tick marks. I don't think I'll risk a 200 yard shot next weekend.

Got Friday off (opening day) plan to leave Thursday afternoon and set up camp & hunt at 1st light!

Bob and Avis, if you are free this weekend, you should come out with Paul (David?) and I. We're going back Saturday and Sunday to get Paul his javelina. We found a heard, but Paul wasn't able to get a shot off. We had a crash course and learned A LOT of things about Javelina on Saturday. My tag has been filled.

Nice kill! I am stuck here this weekend but paul kinda explained where you were. What are you planning on doing with it??
#34
awesome!!!!!
#35
Very cool.

We skinned it out and left the front legs attached. I think a wall mount (not floor mount) similar to this with it standing on a rock would look cool. I need to find a taxidermy shop if anyone has suggestions.

Ooh, forgot I had more pictures.

I'm still standing where I took the shot from. Paul walked over first to confirm kill and is standing next to the downed javelina.

This one was a warrior. Notice the scar and missing fur under his right eye. Exit wound can also be seen. I shot him a little back from ideal spot. It was a lung/stomach shot.

Fangs! Also look at his left ear has been cut previously.

All though I like to hunt bird, I will to say that it is awesome to see a successfull hunt.

Headed back up tomorrow (Friday) afternoon to fill my tag, anyone else interested???
