Build the Dodge?
#1
I know... Im just talking out my butt at this point. I need to get the old Ford on the road first.

I was just looking at my truck and thinking "Bob that is a good truck and you should build it as a good wheeler/hunting/camping/long drive (moab, CO, Rubi) kinda truck" Mind you I didn’t use ( ) when talking to myself. Well... I don’t think I did... Anyway. So I wandered around the truck and thought about all the stuff i would love this truck to have.
It boiled down to 2 things: Axels from a 3/4 or one ton Ram and a small lift.

Warning: I am about to invoke the jinx fairy

From reading up on it, it seems to be a little work but nothing crazy. I’m sure that if I just keep my eyes open on CL I can find someone parting out a Dodge with what I need to do the swap.

Or I can just go buy a new to me Jeep.

Stop by my house and see the damage to my Dodge 2500 from ONE wheeln trip in the New Jersey Pines... IMHO they are too big, but mine is a 8' bed diesel.

Do it, Bob. DO IT!

(and 40x20's would look sweeeeet!)

Good call on how long it is and the damage it can cause.
I have no issue with body damage. Dont get me wrong Im not looking to just trash the thing. However I have been known to use every part of the body as a pivit point when wheeling.
I know the length is a bit of an issue but I dont believe I will be wheeling it in TM... Well not at this point.

STOP THAT!!!! You are evil... I love it!

I have a D35 that I don't need anymore. Also, where do I mail monetary donations to support this build?

I say build it. It would be sweet. Probably cheaper than buying a new jeep. Just put limits on it, ie hunting, snow wheeling. NOT TM or BB. put some slick sliders on it front to rear. Maybe a inner cage and lockers with some stout bumpers and winches. Yea its plural. One in the front and rear. Harbor frieght sells 12000 ones pretty cheap. My 2cents

I think its an outstanding idea. I have always loved full size trucks built up.
#9
I dont believe I have seen any bumpers for a 1500 that I have likes. Thy all seem like something you would see on a pre runner or ranch truck.
#10
i'm pretty sure Desert Rat can help you...
#11
Bob, have you seen this site? http://www.bumperdude.com/ Alot of his bumpers are "ranch" style bumpers but he's got a few in there I really like.
#12
Do it Bob. Do it.
#13
Wow so much money for a winch bumper. May just make it a sleeper/wheeler. you know where people look and then go "holy crap he has 60's under a 1500"

I do like this but not at $2,000

#14
I like that one to, but wow.. could never spend that much on a bumper. Ever.
#15
BUILD it yourself
#16
What Geoff said.

I'm available to pull axles with you when you're ready.

A little out of the way, but good prices and I know a couple places to eat while we're there. :))

I say build it! You've always likes that truck! It's needs a trams right well there not all that expensive! Do a small like 4-6 inch lift and good axles, bumpers, winches and you have a great hunting rig!
#20
Bob, if its to be just a hunting rig set your limitations and go for it build a vehicle that you will not have to rely on others for help as most of the hunts you will be by yourself...
