If you think your kid needs a time out, wait until you get a load of Ardi Rizal, a 2-year-old Indonesian boy who developed a two-pack-a-day cigarette habit. Actually, it's probably not little Ardi who needs the time out; it's his dad Muhammad, who told the Daily Mail that the kid cries and throws tantrums when he takes the cigarettes away. "He's addicted," said the not-so-worried dad, who started his child smoking at 18 months. Fortunately, in the months since the video became a YouTube phenomenon, Ardi reportedly kicked the nicotine habit by going through rehabilitation.

2 Missing Hiker's Bodies Found in Superstitons - Lost since July
http://www.app.com/article/20110110/NEWS06/110110262/Bodies-found-may-be-those-of-Utah-treasure-hunters-searching-for-Lost-Dutchman-Gold-Mine

"We have found what we believe are the skeletal remains of two humans in the Superstition Mountains," said Maricopa County sheriff's spokesman Jeff Sprong. "We are checking to see if these could be two of the missing hikers in July. Due to the conditions of the remains, the medical examiner's office will be attempting to identify the remains."

Apparently there's some controversy going on with the release of this information. Could have something to do with the fact only 2 of the 3 were there

Chinese 'used Top Gun footage' in broadcast on real air force exercise

The footage broadcast by China Central Television was said to show a Chinese J-10 fighter plane firing a missile during manoeuvres and destroying another aircraft.

But film buffs noticed distinct similarities to an aerial combat scene from the Hollywood blockbuster, in which Tom Cruise plays a maverick airman at an elite school for US Naval aviators.

The image of the targeted aircraft exploding looked identical to an explosion towards the end of Top Gun, when Cruise's character hits a Russian plane with a missile.

The footage, which has been taken down from the CCTV website, will prove an embarrassment for the state broadcaster.

In a previous case in 2007, China's state-run Xinhua news agency issued a news story about a discovery related to multiple sclerosis, which was accompanied by an X-ray showing the head of cartoon character Homer Simpson.

Climber rescued after surviving 1,000ft fall

A CLIMBER escaped with minor injuries after plunging 1,000ft down a rock face on a Scottish mountain range.
The 35-year-old man fell the height of the Eiffel Tower shortly after he reached the summit of the 3,600ft Sgurr Choinnich Mor, five miles east of Ben Nevis.

The man, who is from Glasgow and was part of a group of 24 climbers, lost his footing and fell from the summit just after 2pm yesterday.

Astonished rescuers said the climber must have glanced off the rocky outcrops on the craggy eastern slope of the mountain as he fell.

HMS Gannet's Sea King helicopter was already airborne on a training mission and arrived within 30 minutes.

When the crew found the man, he was on his feet and reading a map.

"The top of the mountain was partially in cloud, but we spotted the group and they were able to point out the rough direction to us," said Lieutenant Tim Barker, the crew's observer. "We began to hover down the slope and spotted a man at the bottom, standing up.

"We honestly thought it couldn't have been him, as he was on his feet reading a map. Above him was a series of three high craggy outcrops.

"It seemed impossible. So we retraced our path back up the mountain and, sure enough, there were bits of his kit in a vertical line all the way up where he had obviously lost them during the fall.

"It was quite incredible. He must have literally glanced off the outcrops as he fell, almost flying."

The crew managed to move close enough to the mountain to lower their paramedic to the ground. He examined the fallen climber to find he only had cuts and bruises and a minor chest injury.

Lt Barker said: "We were able to get in quite close to where he had landed and we winched our paramedic, Petty Officer Taff Ashman, down to the scene and it appeared that, beyond some superficial cuts and bruises and a minor chest injury, he was unscathed.

"He was shaking from extreme emotional shock and the sheer relief at still being alive.

"We checked the height while we were in the hover and we were at pretty much bang on 2,600ft, making his fall 1,000ft from the summit."

Study: Staring at breasts increases heart health

GERMANY (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Guys, listen up. A study says it is actually healthy to stare at a woman's breasts.

Five-hundred men participated in the German study. Half were told to refrain from looking at breasts for five years, the other half were told to ogle them daily.

The study found the men who stared at breasts more often showed lower rates of heart problems, a lower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure.

The authors of the study recommend that men stare at breasts for 10 minutes a day.

Man lives after 'driving car over Grand Canyon rim'

A man survived a 200ft (61m) drop in the US state of Arizona after apparently driving his car off the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, authorities have said.

The 21-year-old told park rangers he freed himself from the car after the accidental crash on Monday and climbed to the rim of the canyon to seek help.

The driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

The National Park Service is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On Monday evening, rangers were phoned by a visitor to the park, who claimed he had been flagged down by an injured man who had driven over the edge of the canyon.

The accident reportedly took place at about 1945 local time (0245 GMT) on Monday.

Park rangers later found a vehicle lodged against a tree roughly 200ft below the canyon's South Rim. There was another precipice about 10ft beyond the tree, a National Park spokeswoman said.

Officials said on Wednesday they were making plans to remove the car.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most popular US tourist destinations and is visited by 4.5m people per year.

Truckie 'blew up like balloon' in freak accident

By NZ correspondent Dominique Schwartz, wires

Posted Wed May 25, 2011 1:09pm AEST

A New Zealand truck driver who inflated "like a balloon" when he fell buttocks-first onto a compressed air nozzle is being described as lucky to be alive.

While working on Saturday, Steven McCormack slipped between the cab and the trailer of his truck and was impaled in the thigh by a high-pressure air cylinder which saw his body pumped full of compressed air.

The 48-year-old Bay of Plenty truckie told the Whakatane Beacon he felt as if he was going to explode and began to scream as his neck, feet and hands swelled up.

"I was blowing up like a football... it felt like I had the bends, like in diving. I had no choice but just to lay there, blowing up like a balloon," he said.

Workmates rushed to Mr McCormack's aid, turning off the compressed air and packing ice around his swollen neck.

Ambulance officers removed the brass nozzle and rushed him to Whakatane Hospital, where a surgeon treated the injury and drained one of his lungs, which had filled with fluid during the ordeal.

Mr McCormack said doctors later told him that the air separated fat from muscle and they were surprised his skin did not burst.

Now recuperating, he told the Beacon his skin felt "like a pork roast", hard and crackly on the outside but soft underneath.

Treating surgeon Dr Barnaby Smith said by the time Mr McCormack arrived at the hospital, the gas had made its way from his thigh, into his abdominal cavity and chest.

"It even tracked as high as his eyelids - he couldn't open them because they were so swollen," he said.

"He did have gas within the chest cavity compressing the lungs and heart."

Emergency surgery helped relieve the pressure on Mr McCormack's heart and lungs.

"It's not in the textbooks, and it's the first time anyone I know has seen it as well," Dr Smith said.

A hospital spokeswoman said it could have killed Mr McCormack.

"It's fair to say he's lucky to be alive, it was a potentially life-threatening situation," she said.

Dr Smith said Mr McCormack had almost shrunk back to his normal size.

Treasure hunter near Bulldog Canyon finds - 40yr old briefcase of dynamite

A 26-year-old treasure hunter thought he hit the motherlode when he found a 30- to 40-year-old briefcase in the East Valley desert Wednesday and took it home.

"He takes it home and opens it up and finds papers in there and dynamite," said Chris Hegstrom, a Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman. "It appears to have been from the late 70s and 80s."

The 26-year-old man was treasure hunting with a metal detector near Bulldog Canyon when he came across the briefcase, Hegstrom said.

Once the case was opened, he noticed the explosives had already begun to crystallize.

"They say when it starts to crystallize, it becomes extremely volatile," Hegstrom said. "There was a safety issue there for that young man."

The man called authorities, who responded about 1 p.m. and evacuated 25 people from their homes near East University Drive and North Ellsworth Road.

Bomb Squad officers then worked to stabilize and remove the explosives, which were later safely detonated in an unspecified location in the desert.

Flying bear kills two Canadians in freak accident

OTTAWA (Reuters) โ€“ Two Canadians died instantly in a freak accident when a car hit a 440-pound (200-kg) black bear and sent the animal flying straight through the windshield of an oncoming vehicle, local media said Wednesday.

The bear's body hit the 25-year-old driver and a 40-year-old man sitting behind her and then shot out of the back window. The bear also died.

The accident happened Monday night in a rural area about 25 miles north of the federal capital Ottawa.

"We don't see (this) often, even if we live in the country. Lots of deer, but collisions with a bear and two people died? That's really rare," local police spokesman Martin Fournel told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

Ohio man tazed for running nude in a marathon

A 35-year-old Ohio man pleaded not guilty to "public indecency and obstructing official business" yesterday, after being tazed over the weekend after attempting to run a marathon while naked.

Brett Henderson was collared during Cincinnati's Flying Pig marathon on Sunday, after a wardrobe malfunction left him pounding the pavement sans culottes.

When police attempted to extract him from the field, he refused to leave, at which point cops did the only sensible thing, tazing the bare naked jogger, and hauling his naked ass to the Hamilton County sheriff's office.

Power Outage Due To Eagle Dropping Deer On Powerline

attachment

EAST MISSOULA, MONTANA - Nature dropped a line in East Missoula. Literally. NorthWestern Energy officials confirm that a baby fawn, dropped by a bald eagle, was responsible for Wednesday morning's power outage.

Lee Bridges was outside taking photographs of a bald eagle sitting in the tree above her house and told us while she sees the eagles fly by all the time, her tree is not usually a stopping point.

"They never come over here and when it perched up in that tree, I thought, I gotta get pictures or nobody's gonna believe me," Bridges said.

Bridges soon noticed the power was out inside her house on Clyde Street and a NorthWestern Energy crew was already working in the alley nearby.

"I said, ‘What was the problem?' So he rolls down the window and he points up in the air right over my head at this power line and goes, 'You see that?' And I look up and he goes, "You've got a deer with wings.'"

It was the body of a baby fawn. Northwestern Energy and Bridges determined the bald eagle dropped its breakfast on its way back to the nest.

"It was just a great big coincidence that I happened to be taking pictures of the eagle and my husband put together, 'Oh, the eagle, the fawn. Get it?' And yes, I got it. It was just a really bizarre incident," Bridges said.

And chances are high something of that nature won't drop by East Missoula again. "I doubt it's ever happened before and I doubt it will ever happen again," Bridges said.

NorthWestern Energy restored power within 30 minutes.

Woman survives 50-foot fall off wilderness cliff

A Oregon woman was in a Portland hospital Wednesday after falling 50 feet from a wilderness cliff, breaking her leg in two places and surviving more than three days on wild berries, caterpillars and creek water.

An Oregon National Guard helicopter pulled Pamela Salant, 28, to safety Tuesday afternoon, more than three days after she fell from the cliff after going on a hike in the Mount Hood National Forest, local media reported.

Hood River County Sheriff Joe Wampler told KATU that searchers used two shoe prints found over the three days to determine the direction Salant traveled and narrowed their search from there.

Hood River sheriff's Detective Matt English that Salant ate berries and catepillars for nourishment. Essig his girlfriend covered herself in moss for warmth and tied her underwear to stop bleeding on a deep cut on her knee.
