Moab May 4-7th: Official Farewell Trip
#1
So a little birdy told me a certain beloved community gnome and his family will be hitting the road back home and closing this chapter of their lives. As such there have been talks of doing a Moab trip this April to send them off. Lets use this thread to formulate a game plan including dates, proposed routes, and any vehicle maintenance needing to be done prior to the journey.

Personally I have a laundry list of things to accomplish on the truck in just a few short months. However, I was given to green light to devote my tax return to Dorothy...a thought which I never thought I'd have...permission to spend money...

Anyway lets get some thoughts going!

My List

- Replace Shocks
- Pass Side. Caliper/pads
- 4WD Vacuum (or 1 piece shaft)
- Worn out/loose steering
- Heater Core
- Control Arm Bushings
- Mystery Clunk (suspected steering or bushings)
- Transmission Pump
- Tires (suspected main cause of death wobble)

I rearranged these in importance of getting done before Moab for you..... :)

Gather your parts and bring that thing up here for a couple days. We'll knock it out.

Well there was no particular order but i appreciate it!

I have some other nonessential projects that require some fab if you'd be interested...

I am really looking forward to this. General consensus is that April or May is the time frame. The Gnomes move in June. The other general thought is this is a four day trip not a week, to make it workable for the most people.

Maybe the weekend after EJS?

Chris, if you can come up with another trailer you can drive my truck and I can pull my jeep with my work truck. Just a thought.

EJS would be sweet but you know the trails will be packed. But there will be cool rides, sweet concepts and good shows at the main obstacles.

I think it is wise to have a wrenching day for everybody
#11
I can't make EJS. You know... Easter and all. ;-)
#12
Easter is every year.. you at EJS isnt... just saying.
#13
I still love me some family and some Risen Jesus, so I won't be in Moab for EJS. Just saying. ;-)
#14
But Jesus and your family will be in Moab...

So. Dates to possibly consider.

April 7 8 9 (maybe 10?)

May 5 6 7 (maybe 8)

May 19 20 21 (maybe 22)

Thoughts?

April is difficult for me due to NORRA. I probably can't make it, but I really really really really really want to hit Baja again.

Lets do may. Are you going to time crunch on the late may with the move and all?
#17
I can make any of those work, however I will say we definitely need to make it a 4 day trip I think... It'll be more relaxing.

What's the reasoning behind Friday - Monday instead of Thursday - Sunday?

Noel and I are more than likely in on this. During Christmas she said she'd be excited to do another trip out and thought the whole teamwork thing she finally got to see out at Pyeatt would be awesome to experience there.
I know right now that the Thurs thru Sun would work for her new job.

I don't know if an 8hr drive there and back is worth having only 1 real day in Moab.

If this is a one of those last in a lifetime things and we'll have a TJ, a FSJ and possibly a beautiful flatty, I would probably go back to photog duty. It is more heavily my passion and we'd have some great metal personalities out there.

I am bringing the flat fender.. already started ordering some maintenance stuff for it to get it ready.

Thursday through Sunday will work. I agree on the day drive up there, two days doing classics, and a day drive back. We'll make it work. May is better than April with Kate's schedule as well. We're not moving until more than likely the 2nd week of June, so May is actually good. All housing situations will be sussed out by then and it'll just be a waiting game.
