Try to hit all of the sites on the way up there and back and during one of the days... art project scavenger hunt.

How is your Jeep not running now? It ran when you bought it. If we need a work day over the next three months, let me know and we'll set one up. You have to come. It's a rule or something. ;-)

Chip's art is best seen through an old film camera :)

Scavenger hunt sounds kinda fun if the other stuff falls apart.. I'm good with sitting in the forest doing nothing for a week though so it doesn't take much to keep me entertained... lol

Plan A: Point Sublime and Vermillion

Plan B: Point Sublime and Painted Desert Project

Plan C: Mojave Road, Part Duex

Plan D: There is no plan D. ;-)

All great ideas. :))

That's a crazy time at work, but one day shouldn't be a big deal.

Worst case scenario, head up after work on Friday and connect with us where we are and finish out the weekend. It's just Northern AZ, so it's drivable after work.

So, general vote / consensus: Do we want to try and get a pass for Vermillion, or do we want to chase the Painted Desert installations and route through parts of Northern AZ?
#28
I"m good with whatever... both sound fun, nice thing about the painted desert is no hassle with permits.

and we could find a really random place to camp illegally. ;-)

Well, this decision has been made for us. The slots for the Vermillion permit are full on the days we are looking for, so...

Friday - scavenger hunt the Painted Desert Project art installations (and maybe do our own art project around it). Camping TBD.
Saturday - continue scavenger hunt, but end up heading into Point Sublime just after lunch (this also allows for those who can't leave Friday to join up with us and do Point Sublime). Be at camp before sunset.
Sunday - enjoy morning at camp, leave for Phoenix around mid-morning, wander back down the mountain Sunday (those who need to power back can, those who want to find abandoned stuff or just stop because something looks interesting, or find an alternative dirt road route home, can.)

Awesome. Looking forward to it!

I work Friday's and Sunday's full 24s but I'm trying to get a new position with different days. I'll pencil it in and would love to go but I can't promise anything. I'll do my best to get a new schedule!
#33
So who's all in for this??
#34
Probably not me. :(
#35
I am still planning on this, but schedule is squeezed with work stuff and basically living Minneapolis the next few months. I think I still swing the weekend (planning on it), but I need to adjust my week before or my week after to stay in AZ. I'm not comfortable being gone all week, coming home for the weekend only to be gone the whole time, then leaving again for another week. Let me work on that part.
#36
I"ll plan on bringing the quiet generator so we can all watch the KOH movie if it works out.
#37
Ok, so no KOH movie in yet and I'm in Minneapolis until Friday night and fly out again on Sunday. So no Point Sublime trip this weekend (at least led by me...).

I am truly sorry, guys, but work is what work is right now. The UT Marathon got nixed this weekend for me as well.

Bob, if we don't come up with anywhere else to go we could hit up Horseshoe bend on Friday and camp somewhere in that general area... Saturday drive to point sublime or anywhere else, camp and drive home Sunday morning?

Horseshoe is less then a mile super easy hike / walk.

With that being said, I'm very much okay with lower desert stuff too... this is the season to do that as it's not stupid hot during the day.

Also okay with Salton Sea and surrounding area or whatever is there.

Just gonna leave this here..
