Is there a benefit to a laser on your firearm? Let's do some research and save some $

alot of things surely have changed since my time in the military with my m24-001 sniper rifle

Props to you for being one of the elites, and thank you for your service to our country. I've spent a lot of time with military snipers and man, they are a unique breed. I would love to hit the range with you some day and get some pointers. I'm pretty good but the learning process never stops. I'm still trying to grasp the concept of using mil-dots and MRADS. That's some touch stuff! You and me need to meet up at a rifle range some day!

Pros:
Easy install

Still fits in holster and doesnt add bulk

Visible in direct sunlight at 20ft but hard to pick up the dot

Cons:
Im used to shooting with one eye closed, doing this its really hard to see the dot from the laser on target

My index finger usually sits on the side of the rail when I am aiming and moves to the trigger to shoot, because of the location of the laser, my index finger blocks its path. I have get used to placing my finger a little lower, but still off the trigger.

James summed it up when he said to me the laser doesn't replace your traditional sighting method, its just an enhancement. For point hip shooting the red dot will be helpful, but for traditional site shooting, I hardly noticed it.

I think that having the laser pointing on a bad guy will also add some psychological advantage for me. They will know without a doubt where I am aiming and might make them think twice before forcing me to pull the trigger.

Ill get some pics up a bit later as well

After a little over a year of having this installed I figure Id give an update

Laser is still bright. BUT Ive had to replace the batteries 3x now. This isnt getting used heavily 90% of the time it sits in the gun safe. I have no idea why the batteries are dying this fast. Seems like it should last a lot longer. It stinks that I might go pick it up and need to use it, and have the laser be dead.

Im wondering If I should sell the laser grips and just get a new set of high quality night sites

Did you sign up for the "Free Batteries for Life" program?

nah I didnt, when I saw it, i thought whod actually need that? Batteries not being used should last a long time

guess I should have

Your kit came with two Q-tip like tools. It should be used for cleaning the battery contacts. Get some 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and clean off the contacts. This may be the cause of the battery issue. I am over a year now, and am still on the original batteries.

It's not to late to take advantage of the Free Batteries for Life. Call them.

If not, sell them and get yourself some Meprolight night sights and a Streamlight TRL-4 compact weapon light.
