97 TJ Update Thread
#1
Well, I started updating the TJ to "make it my own". Some things are cosmetic, some are necessary, and some are just for the heck of it.

One of the things I started with was the seats, yanking out the old, weatherbeaten red ones and putting in some new grey/black Beard seats. The 4 pt harnesses were weather beaten and old, so I've ordered new harnesses (that have come in) that still need to be installed. I also pulled the back seat to make room for a cooler, tools, ammo cans, etc... I will be building or creating a handy-dandy storage system for the back once it's cleaned up more. The truck bed lining that had already been done is in good shape, just needs cleaning.

After tightening up some things and getting my headlights working again (plus installing the winch), I began pulling body parts to re-paint the jeep from red to black. The neigherbors were really impressed with their redneck neighbor. LOL

Paint is a flat black.

Taking a Jeep apart is much easier than putting it back together, but once I put all the puzzle pieces together last night, this is what we have as of this morning:

Still on the agenda are a host of other things (tie rod ends and chasing DW, graphics, radio/iPod dock, sound bar, storage unit, get suck down winch working, paint the cage, clean up the rust on the undercarriage, figure out the why the rock lights aren't working, install removable windshield, in cab winch controller, etc...).

Mod Day coming up will be fun. The graphics will be the creation of Mr. Skatchkins, so I'm looking forward to what is in that head of his for the rig. Right now it kind've has the "Mad Max" vibe with all the aluminum and the flat black paint. It scares the little kids in the neighborhood. I dig it. 8)

You sir, shall be first to fart in it. I made Mike cork it a couple weeks ago.

Nice job Alan! I like it even more now.

Looks way better now!

I dig it, but might consider a real cage rather than just repainting that bolt in. Looks to be all that jeep really needs. Nice find.

Nice! I love the flat black. Let me know if you need some new 39" Red labels for that bad boy....or is it a girl? Have you named it yet?
#9
You have 39 inch reds? Tell me more please. Pm if needed.

Alan, I made a storage box for back of my CJ. I used Stu Olson's idea and made one for my CJ. http://www.stu-offroad.com/body/rearstor/storage1.htm

OK, DEATH WOBBLE IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!

Turns out it was the water in the tires the whole time (although replacing the tie rod ends couldn't have hurt).

I popped the tire, used a pump we use to empty the pool for winter, dropped it in the tire, dried the tire out in proper redneck fashion, then took it for a drive.

I hit 65 on the loop 101. It doesn't handle quite like my car, but hey, it handles!
