OUCH! That's really a bummer. Good thing you found a new hatch! Glad nobody was injured.

I would give you my stock tire carrier, but I'm busy using it at the moment.:)=)

Yeah I like the stock carrier, Ive just been too busy to hit any of the junk yards to search for another one, the old one is bent in SO many directions so as far as Im concerned its trashed...

Got the hatch for $25 & it is installed, closes hard ( think the accident pulled the roof down or the floor up) so Ill look more into it another time.
But for now as Mike said @ the meet & greet "Rubber side up" :)g)

Thanks Virgil!

that one is a bit off from the current one, so Think Im gonna hold off till I fins the same one so I dont have to cut, weld, beat & bend any more than need be :)g)

Good eye man! really appericate it

just get it in the general area, wheel a couple of weekends, and it'll settle into it's "natural" position! Welding it where you want it to stay is just wishful thinking... :)=)

Bummer. I didn't know there were different types of XJ tire carriers. I thought that one would fit for sure.

Yep, two different kinds. Scooby and I both have (or in his case had) the one in the second pic, which I like much better.

Those things are sturdy too. I remember once I hadn't latched it all the way and zoomed out of a parking lot to beat oncoming cars. I made the turn at around 25-35 and the tire swung out at full force. Scared the crud outta me, but it stayed on. Now my rear bumper has a nice bend to it from where the tether pulled on it.:)=)

just make one but guess you would have more than 50 bucks in just the metal alone

Went to the Broadway Pick-a-Part and they have an XJ with the tire carrier that connects to the bumper on the bottom and to the side on the top. It's in the SE corner of the lot. Go in the main entrance out to the middle isle and go left. Then, it's way back on the right side. Take your torx bits. It looks like it uses those.
