Short Verde River trip in X 10-28-07
#1
Just went on a short camping trip to a part of the Verde I hadn't been to.
It is the part in Sycamore Canyon near Clarksdale.
Trees are still having trouble changing unfortunately but there is some yellow out.

From above:

Where I camped (had to hike down):

A little color

The mountain really is this color

I missed a good train shot. They have an interesting tour where they have flat bed cars you just stand on

There were no Jeeps so I had to take pictures of woodland creatures

These were fun to sneak up on. If they lost track of where you went, they'd actually come closer to figure it out.

Wow nice shots!!! Looks like a nice relaxing day

Any way to get directions to that area?

Thanks.
And of course. Pretty much you just want to go to Clarksdale. I have all the coordinates whenever you need them.
I pretty much took every dirt road/trail I saw, so I know which ones are worth taking.
There's a 3.7 hike down at the end that will take you to a couple springs.
I had already done plenty of hiking and photoging by the time I got to there so I opted out.
I also now know what time the trains get to the tracks.

I don't know if I feel a cold coming on or not (Paul, that sounds like a nasty cough!), but this looked like a beautiful little trip. Paul and I were kicking around the idea of starting a "Thanksgiving Weekend" family ride to just really enjoy God's goodness and incredible creation the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Who knows, maybe turn it into an annual thing or something... That's as far as we've gotten with it, since we only started talking on Sunday about it, but even something like this, that's just beautiful and nice may be a good day trip, at least for the family, or as a light get out, and may be the ticket.

Great pictures, too, by the way. You've got a great eye, Skatch.

Great pic's. I live in Cottonwood and there are all kinds of wheelin in this area. A group of us have a web site through our church( verde baptist-ironmen). The trails are all different levels, from crusin to smasher. Let me know, maybe I can help with directions if I can't go.
