Im at a cross road with the heep…
#1
I feel like I need to sell it before I put in any more money into it but I don’t think I could afford to get a newer jeep or a truck and some trail only rig… If I was to sell it today I wouldn’t get to much because of the body and lack of interior not to mention the check eng light. The Jeep goes back into the shop on Monday for a manifold o2 sensor and some exhaust work. I still need to locate the angry midget with a hammer that lives in my rear diff. Bent axel tube?

Soooooo… do I keep the heep and keep building it? Or risk it all and sell it in hopes of a new rig…

If I keep it the plan will include:
Long arm kit: $1500
4:1 $700-1000
Auto trans: $ ?

Im sure there will be other stuff too like skid plates and beefed up control arm mounts.

What to do what to do?????

Keep it, save up money for truck. Then once you have the truck, sell jeep and buy trail only rig

If you need a place to work on the jeep Im sure my garage would be available for a weekend.

If you need someone to watch ebay for deals on parts let me know too, I have 12 hours to kill 3-4 days a week while Im at work

That is a lot of money Bob. If you did sell how much could you get for it? And then what buy another jeep? You are looking at over $3000. Just to fix it the way you want it. I would sell it and get another jeep. Or start it on fire. Just a thought. :)

Whats an immediate need right now?

auto tranny?
rear axle?

Fix the noise in the rear.
Rebuild rear drive shaft
Auto trany (clutch is going out again and it would be cheaper in the long run to do an auto)
That is what is needed as of now.

Ill help with the tranny swap if youd like. What model are you looking for?

Also I have a brand new tom woods driveshaft sitting in the garage that I might be able to part with for a cheap price

Your shaft is not jointed and... it's actually too long

If you do need an axle, Desert Fab has been pretty good on price for a couple guys I know

Having been an owner of an older vehicle, I know how it is when you must spend your money on maintenance instead of mods. The money you've put into your Jeep has almost entirely been just to keep it running.
I can see the benefit of starting over with a more stable base and using your money for what you'd like to do to it instead.
If that becomes something you end up doing you know you'll have people to help out. Working to fix things is no fun, but adding and building is. Ride your Jeep, don't let it ride you.
Just don't leave the Jeep family for good!

Im in talks with a guy in NM for a 4:1 kit.I don't see it happeing but you never know. Im going to see what Joe has to say about the rearend on my Jeep. He will be fixing the check eng light on monday... I picked up some rear bump stops so no more "can you grab that spring?". I still need to fix the DW and a few other things. To do an auto swap will be $650-$750

If I sell it I think I will take a break from the heeps and go with the hot rods... I miss going fast.

You can't take a break Rob it's not in your blood.

That would be sad. I know you would be happy not having to pay for the upkeep of the heep. I will pray that you decide to stick with a Jeep :)=)

Still no word...
