Show me your rack thread
#1
So you two XJ people, I've been wanting a rack for a while. Show me yours.

I'm thinking mine will be a little different. I have those huge aluminum side bars. So the racks out there are the cross bar mount types, making for a pretty tall structure once it's sitting on my bars.

I really like this pic :)g)

But like I said, I was thinking about going a different route and I found one that a guy made that grasped what I was thinking of.

It's sits down in between them.

Anyway, this is just a rack thread, so catalog yours and all your rack accessories here.

You have access to a person that can fab and weld great, you are good artistically........ Pull the stock rack off and fab a custom one that looks COOL and mounts to the same spots as the old one. Then you can have what ever you want and you are not restricted by those hugh gawdy bars!!!

You have the talent to design an awesome rack and you have ssaid before that you didn't want to be like everyone else!!!!

There's a full replacement rack, but I can't steer my eyes away from how it seems to take away from what I'm used to an Xterra roof looking like.

not a fan of that one

if you could make your own and keep the front angle/plate that ID's it as an X I think itd look good

Yea, you could design something much better than that. kepping the front plate is a cool idea too.

I thing the tube should be bigger than what they used but not as big as the stock rack. It could be a tinner wall tho to help keep weight down.

The X brace on the side is cool but need to be more decorative and less brace looking...maybe kinda like your avatar, tho that would take some serious cutting and grinding

like that idea, either put the X with wings on each side of the rack or maybe put it on the front where the diaganol plate goes

would look cool :)=)

Cut the overall shape out of plate and then have him use the mig to wel the feather details and edges in. Once it cools, paint it black, let it dry then spray some red paint on card board, wipe it with a rag and lightly wipe the welded ridges to give them the red highlights!!!

It is and awesome emblem, might as well display it if you can!!

Well here is my rack.
Again made it myself used 1x1x1/8" angle iron & 1x1x16ga square tubing.
Support under it is 5/8" Uni-Strut & Surco pinch seam mounts (GM100)
Total of 3 supports on each side use to have 4 total but broke 1 mount from having too much weight on the rack (14gal water, 5ga gas & 3 ice chests @ 45lb each)

Well... my rack is still in development. I have a pre-teen XJ that's trying hard to grow up before her time! LOL

Daryl is building me a rack that I should have in the next week or two, then I'll post pics.

I'm still a little disturbed that Skatch want's to see our racks... just doesn't seem right or natural somehow... LOL You need to get out more, man!

Checkin' out men's racks... reading Jeep on the pot... seriously. Dana, do you have any friend's you can introduce him to? Chris? Somebody!??!?!

"Show me your rack" is a nice title. :eyeroll: I can't wait to see the X with a rack. I've gotta see more pics to see what looks good. Keeping the tire up there right?

I've finally worked up the courage to "show my rack"! LOL No, Daryl got it to me the day before Broken Arrow, but I didn't get it on until the Sunday after, so now I have pics.

Daryl is local and did really good work for me. He's on craigslist all the time. I also mounted my hi-lift and four hella lights, but I've not completed the electrical yet. I'm going to trick Sc00by into helping me, but don't tell him... it's supposed to be a surprise! LOL

Do I have permission to borrow the "missile switch" idea for my lights, by the way? I LOVE them and want to take out my ashtray and mount a switch plate for the front fog lights, the top driving lights, the rear lights, and an electric fan for my gosh-darn hot running XJ! I think four missile switches in the bottom center would be cool!

Also, I kept the factory rack under the one I added for additional support when hauling heavy gear. The cross mounts support where the iron cross mounts are not located, so it was easy for me to stand in and the weight be equally distributed, for what it's worth...

Anyway, here is my rack:
