spider gears
#1
Ill be taking off the rear diff tonight to check out whats broke. Michael thinks its the spider gears, hopefully its something easy like that

Quick question, say I wanted to throw in a cheap lokrite locker in there and get rid of the spider gears completely. Think its worth it, or should I save for a real locker

what is the price to put it in? I have cheap rear lockers and it seems like it helps.

cost for part is $200 for a cheap locker

spider gears are $80

Nate you have a limited slip.

Chris, might as well try it out. I don't know how well it will hold up to real off road abuse.
Have you pulled the cover yet?

Yes its worth it. You just need to stay off the skinny pedal. I bet when you pop the cover you find teeth from the R&P

I was a little too exuberant in following you and thought I could force my way up

long story short, no one in town had the spider gears and I didnt want to be without a vehicle for another week. Michael and I went down to 4wheelers on Saturday and bought a new lockright.

The only one they had in stock was a display model, but after a moments confusion with the guy behind the counter looking puzzled at the parts and asking someone in the back for help, he packaged it up and I was $329 poorer

I should have been leary when the shop guy had a puzzled look on his face

Yesterday we were able to pull everything out and were putting the lockright in place when Michael noticed that there is absolutely no way that the axle shafts will fit into the lockright. The shafts are quiet a bit bigger then what the lockright will accept

Kind of disappointed in 4wheelers that they sold me the wrong part and Im out of a vehicle for several more days.

Hopefully we can exchange it for the correct size without a problem

That really sucks. Do you think it will be up by the end of the month?

That is strange, I have dealt with them several times and never had a problem. Most of the time now I deal with Desert fab cause they are real close to my house!!!:)g)

Good luck with it all

We got the lockright installed last night, Mike came by afterwork and we had it all back together in under 2 hours

Took a test drive last night and drove it to work this morning. Seems to be working okay. I was a little nervous, I kept thinking my rear would lock up and Id spin out of control

But nothing eventful happened and looks like we got it in okay

The clicking sound when turning will take some getting used to
