Xterra steering q's
#1
hey everyone, i ordered an LP centerlink for my lifted xterra as now it seems like my steering is getting sloppy. I have read through the tech info on the install and was wondering if anyone knows what other specialty tools doing the swap might take? Pickle fork, 5/8th drill bit? I am kinda nervous about tackling this but think if i have the right stuff I will be okay.

Thanks guys

S'up again Gabe.

Really the only special tool you're going to need is the pickle fork. I didn't remove the Pitman. If you had gotten the stage III you'd need that puller, but I just drilled out the hole with it on there.
Just make sure to tie off your steering wheel real well and of course get an alignment ASAP.
The instructions actually say to trailer it to the shop :)g) . Just keep everything tight and close to how it came off, and there shouldn't be a problem.

Also, try Firestone for their alignment. They will do the lifetime thing and shouldn't give you flak when you bring it in. (if it helps, I used the one right there on Grand and 83rdish.

the X is coming around pretty well. I recently got a used calmini rear tire carrier. it makes a bit of noise on bumps but works well. I also replace the factory 16in wheels with the charcoal desert runner wheels off a frontier they are 15in wheels and look pretty good in my opinion, i liked the 17's of the supercharged x's but these were a good deal at 200 bucks for 4. I just snapped a pic in the garage.

The dark desert runners do look great.
My other Nissan friend has then on his Fronty. But then again anything's better than the stock x wheels ;)

Let that thing out of the garage for some air man

Hey nice X, do you have any more pics of that rear tire carrier setup?

i still havent got the steering on yet! Ugghh, dang busy days.

That stinks, is your Xterra your daily driver?

yeah it is. That is the real problem, if I start it and for some reason run into trouble I am screwed for the day, and then there's the whole having to get it aligned quickly. So I might have time this afternoon/evening just gotta get me a pickle fork and a good drill, mine is old and I don't know if I could drill into a stick of butter with it. lol.

well, after a couple of hours of wrenching and drilling (breaking 2 5/8ths hardened steel bits) and guidance from michael (thanks again) my X is now aligned and driving wonderfully.
