Water Crossing
#1
I have done several of these but had a problem on the one last weekend and do not understand what whas happening.

We tried the south route out of the Coke Ovens and did the river crossing. River is up a bit and running quite a bit faster than normal. As I said, I have been in the water several times in this jeep and have not had a problem but this time it was hesitating real bad like it wanted to stall, had very little power and was just sick, I shifted to neutral and revved it and got it running again and then to dive when it went a little ways and started hesitating again. I made it accross and once out of the water it was fine. The water was up to the spare in the rear so it was easily over my 33's but the intake was not a concern, the electrics were fine cause I could rev it and it would run ok and once out of the water it was fine.....anyway, we got up the hill and found the way out was washed out and then got in trouble with the cops for being close to the tracks...yada yada...turned around and went back, same problem going the other way.

Only thing I can think (now, didn't think to test it then) is that the exhast was fighting the water due to the stronger flow and it was too much backpressure and trying to stall it...but that is purely a guess, other times in the water the water was not moving fast. If this is it I could have used 4lo and 1st on the auto to keep the RPMs at mid range (again, didn't think of it there)

Any other ideas or suggestions??

my first thought was exactly what you said, sounds like the water was creating too much pressure for your exhaust

There were cops out there?

Ditto on the thinking

Lady cop riding with a RR guy in one of those modified trucks that ride the rails. Busted us crossing the tracks looking for a way out around the washed out area.

So, on the water, ya think it would help to keep the revs up and if it does stall, will it suck water up into the engine causing a need to pull the plugs?

It could have neen the exhaust, but I crossed the verde one and I had no problems time and it was moving pretty good . Come to think of it now I actually sank it a little with would cause the exhaust to be futher in the water where the current is not as strong.

If it only happend in the water (both times) I would say that it is nothing electrical.

That was why water pressure was I I could think of. I have been in the water several times with no current and had no problems
