The record (recognized by Guinness World Records) was set by Tom Shufflebotham in 1980 when he charmed 511 worms out of the ground at the first championship.
Competitors compete for a trophy the shape of a golden rampant worm, awarded to the person charming the most worms from their 3-meter-by-3-meter plot in 30 minutes.
