cutting board plastic as a skid
#1
I was reading about a plastic compound called UHMW. Its simmilar to the stuff plastic cutting boards are made out of

It is suppose to be as strong as steel and alot lighter. Im thinking about picking up a piece and slapping it on the belly skid to see what happens. If it holds up and doesnt crack or break it might be something worth looking at as a permanent skid

this works, ive used, and curently using it on my taco, you need a thin 3/16 metal backing on it and works good if you counter sink the mounting bouls and use a button head bolt (allen) that way when grinding over the rocks it dosent mash the bolt so bad that its a mother f**r to get back off, watch for thin spots created by groves cut by the rocks your sliding over. the best place to find this stuff is just ask the deli or meat guy if he has any old sheets laying around i have 4 3'x4' sheets still and got them for free

I have a polaris ranger UTV (4wd golf cart like atv) and it has this same type of stock skid plate. It has held up well to moab, and rock climbing here in the desert.
