public vs private vs charter schools
#1
Does it really matter where the kids go to school? We are considering moving Emma out to a charter or public school, but our biggest concern is the lack of daily Bible study in school, the overall atmosphere and those things. What do you think? It would be nice to save the 12k a year though....

I think I've mentioned before that it's not the school's job to teach biblical values, it's ours. I went to public school and turned out mostly OK. My kids go to public school too. If anything they've had way more opportunity to be witnesses and examples in the world this way.

I know people who have chosen all three of your choices and there nothing wrong with any of them. It's opinion and preference.

What do you do for home Bible study stuff? Do you do set lesson times, or is it more one off type things?

We have a set of Zondervan book of life study materials and we have the verse of the day, but it's really more about Integrating God and how he works in our everyday life.

Studies are great, but so are real life conversations. As they mature it's less parables and stories and more conversations about their thoughts and actions on a daily basis glorifying God.

Agree with Matt on this,

religion has no place in schools in my opinion. The only bible type stuff we had was Awana and Sunday youth group. Granted, I was homeschooled for part of my education but my sister went to an extremely strict prep school and loved it. zero tolerance type of school and from what I could see, that's a far better choice than most public schools. It's still secular, but the strictness and smaller size of the school overall made a huge difference.

The charter schools have been great for smaller class size and a great education geared toward college prep (it is a prep school, after all). Bible values are our responsibility, however I appreciated the school at least no UN-DOING what we were teaching at home. I can only speak for GP, but they were respectful of personal beliefs and didn't espouse a lot of the crap you hear from educators today.
