As I pointed out to Nate yesterday, most police officers will refuse to carry out a confiscation order, as will the military. A order to confiscation guns clearly violates the Constitution. They’ll not just refuse to carry out such an order, they’ll likely turn on the federal government itself.

The clear, implied threat was that if the President or his Constitution-hating allies in the Democrat Party attempted to exceed their constitutional authority and began confiscating firearms, they’d go AWOL and used their skills to overthrow a rogue government.

It’s going to be gun-hating Democrat “true believers” who would have to attempt to carry out any attempt at confiscation, while defending the government from the largest insurgency in world history. Now, you might find people like Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Seth Moulton willing to pick up a gun in an attempt to disarm his fellow citizens who have some degree of skill at arms, but they’re going to be very few and far between.

The vast majority of those yearning for gun confiscation are old hippies or relatively frail and doughy millennials who are lacking what we’d call “proper mindset.”

I don't know if it would play out like what they are thinking. I don't know how many LEO would stand up once they start taking away the paychecks. How many people would be willing to take a life if someone showed up with a magic tin badge that gives them "power" to take your guns?
I do think there would be a war but not as much as what some gun folk believe

they wont need to come for them yet - the terror/nofly watchlist no buy is the first step

being put on a list, by some random federal agency, not told how you are added, or how to remove yourself. List will then prevent you from purchasing guns and potentially ammo

Here's something to ponder during your morning coffee.

As of 2013, there are roughly 317 Million people living in the US. This includes infants and and seniors over the age of 70. 317 Million. At the same time, there are over 357 Million "civilian" firearms in the US. There are more guns than people in the US. In the last three years the sale of firearms grew 400% from 2013 to 2016, due in part to the greatest firearm salesman in the history of the US. President Obama.

Even assuming that the police do join in the confiscation, gun owners outnumber ALL law enforcement by at least 265:1. This is accounting for ALL FBI, CIA, Secret Service, ALL federal law enforcement and local state/city/county POST certified. This also accounts for the civilian US Population from ages 15-70.

To balance the odds, the US will have to recall EVERY US combat soldier from EVERY branch of military, from EVERY continent, to converge on the US. We would still have the advantage of at least 70:1 ratio.

With the power of the internet, forum boards, and other social media outlets, it's very easy to coordinate a citizen defensive group. It can be done in a lot shorter time than it will take the military to recall every active duty US combat veteran in the world.

The numbers just don't support a national firearm confiscation. Now, there are those (spineless east/west coast citizens) that will "give up" their rights of ownership for certain "look type" guns. They call them assault rifles. I call it the "Modern Musket".

The casualties will be rough on both sides, and the outcome will not be pretty, no matter which side wins we all lose.

The Australia one went pretty well (without conflict). 1/5th to 1/6th semi's were volunteered to be bought back. Hard to believe just that chunk supposedly dipped firearm homicide by 59% and firearm suicide by 65%.

I think Jimmy would be the only one of us to be able to own a pistol or anything higher than a single shot .22.

Category A is .22s, shotguns and air rifles. That’s the easiest license to obtain. No semiautomatics are allowed.

Category B is for center fire rifles. You have to provide a reason for why you need a more powerful gun. I shoot feral pigs and foxes; that’s a valid reason. Again, no semiautomatics.

Category C is available only to farmers; they can own a semiautomatic shotgun or .22 but the cartridges are limited to five shots for the shotgun and 10 shots for the .22.

Category D, for semiautomatic guns and rifles, is only for professional shooters: you have to have a registered business and prove that you are earning an income through shooting.

An H license is for handguns. If you want to buy a pistol in Australia you’ve got to be a member of a target pistol club. You’ve got to do a minimum of eight competition shoots per year to keep your license. If you don’t, you lose it.

Category G is for collectors. For that you’ve got to attend at least one meeting per year.

Side note, it was interesting reading internet people's stories on who in their family had been accidentally marked for no-fly lists and how they are stuck on them with no answers.

Mike's point is what scares me... the "coming for your guns" won't be direct and physical as Jimmy said... it will be an insidious mindset play where people will give up their rights and think they are doing it for the greater good... just look at personal information and privacy that's been given up (either via requirements/laws and even stupid things like social media, etc...) It only takes one generation of significant mindset change to turn it. Look at Bernie supporters and their view of socialism and the role of government. They will be the majority and the "adults" in 20 years.
