Redfield Wilderness Dec. 31st - Jan. 3rd
#1
Myself, Chelcee, Crackers, and our friends Andrew & Christina (couple at the lake who wasn't sure about the blue waffles :) ) are headed out Thursday morning to spend New Years far away from people and do some hiking/shooting/relaxing. We will be driving out to Jackson Cabin and setting up camp. I've heard the cabin has a big room with a fire place that is useable, but if not a tent will have to do. I have a 14 mile hike planned Friday to the "Cliff House" in redfield canyon, and Saturday if we feel like it a 7 mile hike to another cabin north up the same canyon.

It's a long drive, and I've read the dirt road from Wilcox is really rough and slow going so I expect to spend most of the day Thursday driving. 4x4 is supposedly required to make the last few miles due to loose rock and steep inclines.

If anyone wants to come out, would love to see you.

There's a dairy queen at the end.....

You attempting Rock House from Jackson by taking Redfield the whole way? I see both your structure boxes in Redfield on the topo.

Also. That area has a chance of snow Tuesday. Lows will probably be 15-20degrees?

Yeah, that's the plan. If we don't make it, it is what it is.. Andrew and I have been there before, and the girls don't care a ton so we just figured we would see how it goes. It's a long ways, but for the most part the canyon bottom is flat so I think it'll go easy. I feel like 14 miles in a day is a lot, but I don't do this enough to know so we are just going to see how far we make it.

I drove 14 miles in one day, once.

Buying a wood stove for the tent tomorrow.... cold weather, no problem. :)

So this trip was changed due to extremely high winds forecasted with really cold temps.

So, instead... we are driving north towards Heber Friday morning to find some snow to play in. Planning on having dinner in heber and staying the night in a hotel then driving south on Young Road to come home Saturday. All are welcome to join all or part of the time.. just throwing it out there.

I hope you have fun! Love the rim country. I can't shake the full weekend loose, but right now as it stand I might be heading to BB with some UT guys and just hanging out and shooting some trails. Been awhile and I'm itching to try this new lens in the canyons. :-)

Since the trip got pushed off this seems like a great trip for spring or summer

Spring would be awesome, only downside to that is all the rattle snakes that'll be out.
