Megan and I are planning on heading to new york late march for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Just wondering who all has been, what they liked, didnt like and whats a must see? Were thinking 4 days but might be able to do 5 including travel.

Any opinions?

What part of NY? Upstate is nice. Must see up there is Niagra Falls. Kind of a long way from NYC.

Manhattan? I was just there this last June-July. All kinds of cool stuff there...If you go to Manhattan pre-plan your Statue of Liberty visit to be able to go up in the crown, not sure if you can still go up in the torch (I'm thinking maybe not). Our highlights were 9/11 site, as my wife and I have been in the twin towers, It meant quite a lot to us. The new One World Trade building is amazing, plan on lunch in the restaurant on the observation deck. We did the 9/11 site, museum, and the Empire State building in one day pretty easily. I have heard that China town area is fun to explore. Try to get invited in to the 'back' trading rooms. Soho area is also fun to wander around for shopping and famous people watching. Use the subway for getting around. It is easy to navigate and you can zip from place to place....adds to the excitement.

I'm sure some other ideas will come to share....

Great idea for an anniversary.

I've only been for work so my excursions are pretty limited, but I agree with James there is a ton to do.

If you're not climbing the statue of liberty you can take the station island fairy for free, it goes right by the statue. Just ride over, and come back. The 9/11 memorial museum is a must. Plan for a couple hours, more if you want to see everything. And bring tissues, not ashamed to say I was moved. The observation deck is cool butnothing mind blowing. I was only able to go at night near 11 which meant no line and cool views of the lights.

You can usually grab last minute tickets to shows, but not always. Even discounted they'll be pricey.

Don't be afraid of the subway. It's my preferred transport and something you should experience. Uber is a good alternative.

I have a few favorites for pizzas and burgers, but there are a lot of fancy places to eat too.

None of the airports are great but Newark is the one I prefer. You can stay in jersey and take the ferry or path to the city. But staying in Manhattan is a different experience.

Also, it smells in the city. Garbage gets stacked on the curb and somethings always under construction. It's not as glamorous as the movies but cool to experience how different a culture can be from how we live.
