Grandfather's guns
#1
My brother, Andrew, was contacted by my Mom's brother (they haven't talked in years) and he said he wanted to pass along some of his guns.
Uncle George finally got together with him and gave him some and said there would be more later. My brother asked him for the single shot 410 he started hunting with and asked me which ones I'd want. Andrew was cool about saying even though George contacted only him, he thought I should be able to pick since I spent more time with Pop and was first grandchild.

Among other things were his guitar and a handmade wallet given to him with a note from an Auschwitz prisoner upon their being freed. It has ticket stubs from shows and things he saw while over there.

From the first group is a Rem 742, a Browning A5 16ga (does have some engraving), and a Rem Nylon .22.

Any thoughts on what I should want?
*I have a .22 and a 12ga.

Remember 742 is a neat gun but it all comes down to if there as required any that have sentimental value.

Yeah. My brother's memory is much better. It's cool that he remembered his first hunt.
There were a lot of guns between Pop and dad and they got shuffled enough to know I've held them all.
I remember holding a gun with a lot of engraving but who's to say that wasn't one of dad's.

If there is not sentimental reason for any of the guns, and you just had to pick which you want, I would go with need and value.

1) Browning A5 (good solid gun, plus it "may" be the one you remembered)
2) Remington Nylon 22LR (has a historical value)
3) Remington 742 (makes for a budget hunting gun)

Too bad you didn't have pics to post! I would have loved to see them.

Cool. I figured Andrew could get more use out of them. I'll never have/want a big collection I have to keep hiddened up.
I imagine he'd like to add to his collection there in Louisiana.

I would like to add a long gun more powerful than my .22. I didn't know the 742 was "budget" though.
I wish I remembered more. My first deer kill would have been a 30 06 of Pops. I wonder if it's in a picture.
