LetzRoll Offroad Racing is going to Mexico!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
APRIL 29, 2014

MESA, ARIZONA. LetzRoll Offroad Racing is racing the NORRA Mexican 1000 down the Baja peninsula May 10 – 14, 2014. Andrew McLaughlin (with Alan Johnson and Jason Hurst as co-drivers and navigators) will be racing the ESAB Welding & Cutting #4493 from Ensenada to San Jose Del Cabo; a total of 1309 miles across the harsh and beautiful Mexico terrain.

Racing in the Ultra 4x4 class, the NORRA 1000 marks LetzRoll Offroad Racing’s first Mexico race with the #4493. The entire race experience will be brought to you via social media, presented by ESAB Welding & Cutting. The tough desert terrain will provide a showcase and brutal proving ground for ADS Off-road Racing Shocks, Yukon Gear and Axle, ARTEC Industries (truss), Pacific Fab (motor), Raceline Wheels, Tireballs, Ballistic Fab, Goodyear Tires, Solid Axle Industries, Dutchman Motorsports, and Spyder Auto (lights – race buggy and chase trucks).

Contingency is May 10th with racing action starting May 11 - 14. The NORRA 1000 is a stage race, consisting of 4 stages spanning the entire Baja peninsula. The team will be updating and uploading race information each night (as internet connection allows). Learn more about the race, including maps of the course and a list of other entrants, at NORRA: NORRA Mexican 1000 and be sure to follow LetzRoll Offroad Racing on Facebook ( www.facebook.com/letzrolloffroadracing ), Twitter ( www.twitter.com/letzrolloffroad ), and Instagram (@letzrolloffroadracing).

Ed Pearlman is the man who first organized the Mexican 1000, co-founded the National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) and founded the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF). His legacy of contributions to the development of off-road motorsports is undeniable. The first race to be sanctioned by the organization would be the 1967 "Mexican 1000 Rally" beginning in Tijuana and racing from Ensenada to La Paz. 68 vehicles started the race competing in four classes. For the first time different types of vehicles would compete against each other. After the first vehicle, the Myers Manx Buggy driven by Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels came across the line Pearlman knew he had an event that held great potential.

LetzRoll Offroad Racing is a Mesa, Arizona based desert race team that includes 4 cars in 3 classes on 2 continents. Andrew McLaughlin, the owner of LetzRoll Offroad, along with Alan Johnson, Matt Salyers, and Mike Robertson (UK) comprise a team of drivers and vehicles that finished top 10 in the King of the Hammers in their respective classes, won consecutive Dirt Riot National Championships, won multiple regional championships, delivered back to back top 10 King of the Valleys finishes, and are consistently on the podium race after race. LetzRoll Offroad Racing continues to expand with additional races in Europe, Mexico, and the United States.

Really stoked about this. Andrew will be driving most of the race with me as his co-driver and navigator. There are a few segments I will get to drive as well. Really excited.

remember the going rate for bringing people back is 5-10k a head. You guys could fund the race team for the next few years if you load up

and THAT's why we're brining the big trailer. ;-)

Actually, we are a part of the Ultra4 group that's going down there with Dave Cole. There are 5 of the 11 cars in our classic this group and we are supporting, pitting, and traveling together to reduce headcount and cost and to increase safety (both during the race and outside of it). Simon Saines is our "eye in the sky" that will be coordinating race ops and Dave has two of his spec class cars racing - one driven by the English guy Jim Marsden (Gigglepin) and one driven by Shannon.

sounds like it will be a fun trip

will you have cell reception there?

I should have, at least in the towns we are staying at each night. I switched my plan to international "so I could stay connected to work when out of the country". ;-)

Heads up form P4X4

news in from the 4493 car

PLEASE NOTE EVERYONE IS OK:

Just a quick update on the team's progress at the Norra Mexican 1000 - Fan Page. Everyone is OK, but at around RM 315 they rolled the buggy. The vehicle was righted by another team and 4493 Chase are currently a few miles out from getting to the guys. The area is pretty rough and out of the way so it's taken a while to get to them. No idea what state the buggy is in but will update the page once I find out. The guys just wanted me to let you all know that they are all OK. - Simon

Update. They are loading the race car onto the chase trailer, and are going to start the long drive out to tarmac. Hoping to be underway in the next hour or so. Vehicle damage is 'not too bad'. Communication is made doubly difficult as the race car tracker and sat phone died and the chase vehicle tracker is also malfunctioning... And to confirm, everyone is OK, no injuries. - Simon

Just spoke for the final time this evening, Andrew said that the car is 'not currently raceable' but seems confident that they can get it back together. By the sounds of it it's mainly front end/axle damage. - Simon
