Have anyone considered retread tires for offroad?
#1
While I was bouncing around the WWW, I came across an article that I thought was interesting. Since offroadaz was shopping for tires, this may be of some benefit for him.

There is a company called TreadWright and they do retreads. They offer some pretty good deals on these tires. I was looking at a set of 315/70/17. They are the "Guard Dog" M/T B2B.

What seems to stand out for these retreads are that it's not just the tread that is replaced from the host tire. The remolding happens from "bead to bead", so the entire outside of the tire is remolded. So you have new sidewalls, as well as tread. :) At $159.00 per tire, it seems to be quite the steal. Especially for those, like me, that spend more time on asphalt than dirt and rock. Granted, I have no need for such a big tire (35", right) but for someone like offroadaz, it may be a benefit. Sure, the name is not Goodyear, Faulkin, Pitbul, or anything well known, but for $800+ shipping for a set of five, seems to be quite the steal. The cheapest I've seen at Discount Tire is $221.00 per tire before tax.

Here's a review from www.fourwheeler.com

Here's a review of the tire, after 1 year of service. This review is before the company went to the "bead to bead" design.

They have been around for YEARS. Good company that seems to put out a solid product. I have talked with people that had the tires 10+ years ago and loved them. I always had 35's and 37's for my off road toys so I never looked into using them. Would love to see the new stuff they have and see how they do in the AZ rocks.

Looks MTRy. I reckon I'd consider it. I've resolved to AZ Best Tire for mine. I can't shell out almost $300per for mine no more.

Yeah fairly well known. The only issue ive heard with retreads is the occasional separation and total blowout. No idea how these would do with our az summer heat and asphalt

These "bead to bead" retreads are only $150ish per tire.

It would seem that most commercial retreads only stretch on the "tread". These look to get remolded and rubber wraps the entire outside of the tire. That's why they call it "bead to bead". I would think that this would help to reduce separation, and obviously their technology is different from those that retread commercial truck tires (18 wheelers).

I'm probably a good 3 year away from needing new tires. I may give them a shot next time.
