Holster Review: Alien Gear Tuckable IWB holster for $30.00
#1
In the past 6 months I picked up a few more smaller guns that I intend to use for CCW carry. I normally carry my 4.25" 1911 in 45acp and I usually use a belt holster. For my new guns, I wanted to go with a IWB holster that was tuckable. I wanted to go with a hybrid holster. A kydex shell with a leather backing and 2 retaining points. The kydex shell will protect the finish of the gun and allow the gun to be retained on the holster withough additional thumb snaps. The leather will be more comfortable against the body and reduce sweating. Having two clips will disperse the weight of the gun and make it easier to both carry and draw. Being a tuckable holster, it will maximize my efforts to conceal my firearm.

I had many choices and decided between the Crossbreed SuperTuck and Galco King Tuk. Both of these holsters are $70.00 before my NRA instructor discount. As luck would have it I saw a magazine article about a new company called Alien Gear Holsters. The name was corny but the advertised price was $29.88 and it caught my attention.

After visiting the web site I learned about these valuable features.

1. It's $29.88 for this Tuckable hyrid holster.
2. The clips have 3 height adjustments so you can adjust for how high/low the holster sits, and adjust the cant to suit your needs.
3. If later you change to a differnt gun, send in the old shell and they will replace it with a new one to fit your new gun, for FREE!
4. You can purchase additional kydex shells to fit other guns for only $12.88 each.
5. The entire holster is carries a Forever Warranty against any failures.
6. They offer a 30 day test drive. Love it or return it.
7. The leather is thick and sweat proof.
8. Their kydex is thicker than most other MFGs.

Well, that seemed too good to be true. I called them to see if they offered a NRA Instructor discount. They did not. Still, the price was very attractive so I placed an order + 2 extra shells. Since they offered the 30 day test drive, I had nothing to lose except $5.00 for return shipping. It took over 21 days to arrive since there was such a high demand for their product. When it finally arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.

It came in a thick plastic bag with a ziplock bag. This is perfect to hold the extra shells and other hardware.

The leather was thick but flexible. I chose natural tan, but black leather was an option for + $5.00. The shells were thicker than others I've seen, and the shells have 4 tension points to adjust for fit and tightness. I opted for the standard metal spring clips, but leather loops were available for + $8.00. It came with extra hardware so you can further fit the shell to meet your needs. Since my primary carry is the 1911, I installed that shell.

First thing I noticed was the belt clip hardware. The screw posts are all factory installed and exposed. I could see them getting in the way with me drawing my gun, as it could snag on my shirt. To remedy this (for my own peace of mind) I installed some of the extra hardware on them. A short screw, a finishing washer, and the short rubber spacer on each of the 4 exposed threads. I was actually short two finishing washers, but chrome ones were available at Home Depot, so I purchased two there.

The shell was molded nicely. My barrel stuck out only slightly. Overall adjustments were easy since they provided the adjustment tool, too. You can never have too many hex keys!

The quality is top notch. The holster is very comfortable and having all these adjustment combinations made it easy for me to dial in the best angles for carry and comfort.

It also came with some instruction and recommendations for carry methods. That's a nice touch.

I was alone during the photo session so I don't have a picture of me wearing the holster. Just trust me when I say that at $29.88, it is WAY affordable. This holster is worth at least $50! Heck, it was still cheaper than Crossbreed and Galco, even after my NRA instructor discount!

I've worn this for about a month and it's getting more comfortable every day.

Bottom line, it's worth a look. The price can't be beat and the quality is top notch. I can also say that their customer service is top notch, too. I called them twice before ordering my holster, and twice since I've had it. Nice people and very responsive.

My Galco is just like that but it does not work for me. I would sell it for 30 bucks to get rid of it.
