Dirt Riot ~ Cortez, CO July 6th
#1
Last regular season race of the year for us. (All star race in Texas is in October, but it's not a points race).

We will be leaving on Thursday, July 4th for Cortez, CO. Fireworks in Cortez on Thursday, pre-running and race prep on Friday, racing on Saturday. We will be leaving Sunday morning for the return home.

I have room for 2 folks in my Chevy School Bus if anyone is interested in racing that weekend.

Always room for pit crew. Race expenses and travel are covered. You are welcome to camp or share a room with those of us who have them booked. Food and beer is on you, but there is usually plenty of both.

Ok, sometimes Miller makes my head spin. Here are the Back 2 Back National Championship scenarios. Right now I have a 23 point lead in nationals. Shawn Rants is 2nd and Jeff Rector is 3rd. Rector isn't a player if I start the race. He doesn't have enough points to catch me. Rants, however, has a mathematical chance. We WILL need to bring a calculator to this race... LOL.

Per Ryan Miller:

"So, no one can catch you in SW.

In Mountain, you are 4th, only way you get to 3rd is by winning with Rector not leading the most laps or having fastest lap if he finishes 2nd
or if you beat him by 4 places with neither of you getting bonus points.

Only way Rants beats you in national (considering you finish at least 1 lap) is if he wins and gets all bonus points or if he wins with either fastest lap or most laps lead and you finish dead last (but still complete 1 lap) and if Rector completes 1 lap (you know he'll have fastest lap).

If Rector wins and you make more than 1 lap, you got it no problem, so Rector winning helps too, even if you are behind Rants.

Sure you can show up and say "I'm going for the win", but in the grand scheme of things, you gotta take the first 10 minutes serious and then let it rip

Sponsors........

Back to back national championships."

So the focus for this weekend:

Objective 1: Start the race (200 points)
Objective 2: Complete one lap (ups it to 400 points)
Objective 3: Beat Rants (keeps me at least 23 points ahead of him, assuming no win and no bonus points for either of us)
Objective 4: Overall win (Golden. 400 pts plus 28 bonus points)

Teaser pics from the Unlimited class race (I was busy racing, so no pics of me or my class! LOL.) Ivan also suited up into the media vest and took pictures and shot video with me as well during the 4400 class race. Such a great time.

AND the LAST thing my GoPro saw (sitting on the very very corner of the low water bridge) before Ben Swain decided to do a balancing act. :-) That's my son in the back in the media vest... he got the whole thing from his angle too. Can't wait for the final video edit! LOL.

On a "me" related note, we took the podium in 3rd place (race recap to follow) which gave us the points necessary for a back to back national championship in the 4500 class! Super stoked. Ivan did awesome, video footage from the race is pretty cool too.

Here is a picture that Matt's wife took. Ivan and I were FLYING. We were down for almost an hour with an issue and still came back to take 3rd. Split times are posted below that.

You might be looking at starting order. The guy who did 7 laps finished 4th (look at the far right), but I only did 8 laps after breaking down for almost an hour and had to catch him on the last lap to take 3rd, the podium, and the points. LOL.

This was a crazy race too, because Rich ran four classes at the same time, so there are 21 cars on the course! Mayhem! LOL.

Good for you Alan. Bob told me over the weekend that you have been seriously bitten by the bug. Glad to see you doing so well.
