This hose is constructed out of a cotton/polyester outer jacket and a similar inner jacket that is also fused to a rubber inner tube. When flattened, it's just over 4" wide.
I thought this hose may come in handy as the outer jacket is heat and abrasion resistant. Plus, fire hoses are known to be pretty darn strong. It's been sitting in my backyard for two weeks now and I finally got some time to doing something with it. But what? What can I use this for? Recovery Equipment first came to mind.
Using a razor blade I cut off one end of the metal coupler. Then, measured out 4-FT and cut it off the 40-FT hose roll. Since the jacket had a polymer weave, I simply used a lighter and melted the fibers along my cut path to keep it from fraying.
My thought was that I could take my steel winch cable and pull it through the 4-FT length, I could use it as a Tree Saver.
The fused rubber inner tube made it difficult to just "drop" the hook through. Well, since the hose has an outer jacket, I decided to just pull off the outer jacket and use it for this purpose. Ching! Worked like a charm. Alternatively, I could have just removed the hook from the steel cable. But I didn't think of it until after I pulled off the outer jacket.
I also made a 3-FT length. It can be used for smaller trees or as a glide path for the steel winch cable. This may come in handy when I need to winch up something from over the side of a hill or cliff like my hunting gear. Or, pulling up a downed game from the bottom of a ridge. Yeah, I can be lazy after a hard day of hunting. :)
Well, I still have 30-FT of this stuff. Any other ideas of what I can use if for?
If anyone wants some of it, feel free to contact me. I doubt if I would be able to use it all.
