Showboat wrote:Elmer at Scottsdale Protech researched and if you thermostat is not a factory part it will not work right. So since its the cheapest part start there. Or we need to presure test it again and leave it overnight. And do a leak down test on the cylinder heads. He says it could be head gaskets, but start with a factory thermostat.

Elmer Rocks!

When did this start happening? You had issues last summer if I remember, but not this bad.

Thermostat is easy, and ac pressure check, and then leak down are all good easy places to start.

Personally, Colorado seems like the best fix of them all.

This is the 3rd summer I have experienced it.

Sell it and buy an XJ. They never overheat.

I think he should buy a green TJ

Good point Chris!!

Status, Mike?

Haven't given it another full test.
Added more water wetter and loosened up the ac compressor belt for the heck of it.

I still need help moving on the 26th and I haven't decided where to yet.

That looks sweet! Awesome job.

hows the temps? you probly havent had time to try it yet, plus like we were talking today the ambient air temps are a bit lower today.
#36
Yeah, I freeway'd it back to work, but it had been sitting a little while, and I don't think it was 100deg yet out.
The tstat so far is keeping normal drive temps lower on the dial so at least I know there is a difference from the 180 one I had in.
I'll keep you abreast :)

Unfortunately there is no change.

AC made it overheat on any hill on the way to Mt Graham this weekend. If I turned it off too late, I had to heater dump it.

On the way back we drove without AC- never overheated once even on steep hills at 70mph.

Is there a coolant or heater sensor somewhere in that mix? May want to check that. Does yours have an e-fan or a clutch fan?
