These Aguila shells have some wonderful benefits.
1. low recoil
2. Perfect starter rounds for young shooters
3. low penetration so ideal for home defense
4. You can fit 9-13 rounds into a shotgun
The choice of shotgun that will feed this "specialty" ammo is not a long list. Most require modifications to work. I know of only 3 out-of-the-box guns that work.
Benelli Nova Pump gun (90% reliable)
FN pump guns (95% reliable)
Winchester 1300 (99.99999999% damn near flawless) <-- Buy This One!!!
Semi-autos? Forget it. Not enough recoil to cycle the actions.
I've tried to find a Winchester 1300 Defender with an 18.5" barrel and a full length mag tube. This will allow it to hold 13 rounds.
The challenge was to find one, as this shotgun was discontinued in 2006, when Winchester closed down their Connecticut plant. The SXP was to replace the 1300, and was made in Turkey. I cannot get anyone to confirm that the internals of the SXP is the same as the 1300. I won't buy an SXP to experiment with, either. I have to try and find a Winchester 1300 Defender with a flush mag tube and an 18" barrel.
Boy, these suckers sure hold their value! Currently, they sell for $300+ used!
Saturday 6/9, I tagged along to a gun shop run with a few buddies. Moments after we arrive, a guy in a Lexus pulls in with that Winchester 1300 Defender. The shop said they were not interested in buying any used guns right now. I followed him outside, stuck up a conversation on guns, wives, and then cut a deal for the shotgun. We both walked away happy. I got the shotgun and he got $175 of my hard earned money. :)
Time to replace the wood furniture for something synthetic, collapsible, and with a pistol grip.
