First of all, here is the website with map and everything: http://www.werocklive.com/events/event/dirt-riot-southwest-3/
This is the park: http://www.thunderrockaz.com/
Adult tickets are $15, kids 8 - 15 yrs old are $5, 8 and under are free.
Friday: Pre-running all day, tech support, plus meet and greet in the evening.
My Schedule: I have to work a little bit in the AM, but plan on leaving work at and heading for the course about 9 AM, getting there by 10 AM. I'll check in, get pit passes and wrist bands for my family, register, and pay entry fees. After that I'll pre-run the course, walk the rock crawling lines, etc...
I have to be out at "Some Like it Hot" cafe in Wickenburg by 3 PM for tech and driver meet and greet that lasts until 7 PM.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to float out there with me on Friday. There is no fee, but I know most everyone is working. Pit crew / co-driver: it's not mandatory for anyone to be there Friday except the driver, but the more the merrier and it's part of the experience so post up if you want to connect on Friday for the festivities at any time. I have room in my vehcile to car pool out anyone who wants to go, but you'll be stuck out there the entire time I am. The other option is to come out after lunch if you can shake free!
Saturday: Race Day!
8 a.m. Qualifying for U4 buggies only
9:30 – 10:30 Trail classes/UTV race – One hour endurance race
11:00 – 1:00 – 4500/4600 class race – Two hour endurance race
2:00 – 5:00 – Ultra4 cars – Three hour endurance race
5:30 Awards Immediately Following
My schedule: The driver meeting is at 8 AM so I'm leaving my house at 6:30 AM to get out there, get unloaded, and BS a little bit. Anyone who wants to ride with me can meet up and my house, or we can jeep parade if you want to leave when I do but still have your own wheels back to town. Mike will need to be present for this. Pit Crew not mandatory, but you are absolutley welcome if it works for your schedules. If not, come with the later group.
My race is at 11 AM but I will run a qualifying lap for starting position earlier in the morning if there a bunch of vehicles in my class. If there are only 2 or 3 others in the 4500/4600 class, I won't (I'll save the rig for the race).
Jennifer and the kids plan on coming out with Scott Boone about 9:30 - 10 AM. They will be leaving my house at 8:30. Same thing applies... if you want to caravan, meet at my house at 8:30 and be a part of the 2nd wave. As folks indicate their preference, I'll update the bottom of this post with details.
The race will be done at 1 PM and Jennifer/kids will be heading back very shortly thereafter since Ivan has an awards dinner at school that evening. The 4400 class race starts immediately after my race. I'll be staying through the end of that I would recommend everyone stay to cheer on Andrew and watch some great desert racing! I will be hauling the mail back to town once the award ceremony is over so I too can attend Ivan's award banquet.
Other things:
The trail class will be entertaining (9:30 - 10:30 race) as the Undertakers are turning it into a club event and the place will be full of sick rigs yelling "Backdoor, MF!) and should prove entertaining.
I've seen the race times get moved around depending upon sign up... meaning, in Tucson they started the 4500/4600 class late and combined it with the 4400 class and started that race early since there were only 5 drivers. In Moab, they had so many drivers they created a "heat" system and progressive combined times, etc... basically, times and rules are subject to change.
Cell phone signal is supposed to be pretty good, so I'll keep folks updated via this thread if there are changes to times, PLUS I'm going to test it on Friday, but I plan on running a live camera during the race via my phone like we did for the Colorado trip. This will be fun!
Camping - you can camp at the park for $10 and it gets you admission to wheel on Sunday as well. I don't plan on camping any of the nights (Friday or Saturday) since its so close, but for those of you who want to set up a camping advanture... feel free, just don't look to me to organize it. 8)
