Might be fun to go up there once things warm up a little
Heres what they say about it
"The Crack's or Mini Moab
Trail Rating:3.5 to 4+ (Depending on which of the trails you run.)
Located in Navajo County 25 miles Northeast of Heber mostly on private property with camping on STL. This series of trails are rated from a 3.5 to 4+.
These trails are unique because they are mostly red slick rock like Moab. The trails get harder as you go. You are never more than about a 1/2 mile from the camping area. You drop off into a big bowl from the camping area and cross to the other side following the trail to GATE ROCK. This is a big rock you have to get up in order to get on the trail. Actually there are 2 bypasses.
Trail #1
After climbing Gate Rock or Stu's Rock as some call it because Stu Olsen and Mike Waterman were the first Jeepers to get over it.
You?re now on trail #1, which goes up a steep hill following the lizards and arrows, painted on the rocks. You cross over Wildman's Crack, a big cracked bolder that will drop your jeep vertical off a 4 ft ledge. Around the next corner and over the rock belly, turn right after the small ledge and follow the trail to the next rock field where there are many different lines you can take over and through it to the end of the first trail. End of trail #1 go to the right and back to camp, or go left onto trail #2
Trail #2
Trail #2 is a short fun technical trail that goes back across the southwest side of the rock field and connects to trail #1 again, or you can branch off onto trail #3, or take the short loop back through Snake Canyon. Some of the obstacles are the Slot, Bump Ledge; with Bill's hole, then The Edge Ledge after a hard left followed by the optional Drop-off. You then finish up with the 3 Sisters, or 3 Bi*ches, if you have trouble, then turn right onto trail #3 or go straight back onto trail #1 and back to camp.
Trail #3
To get to Trail #3 go right just before the top of the hill after the Three Sisters, or continue on over the hill to go back to trail #1 and camp. Follow the markers and climb up on the big slab of rock turning downhill as you do. When you come off the big slab you have to make a decision whether to go on down and around to the right and off the backside of the rock field or take the option through the squeeze to the left after climbing a couple of bad ledges, which cuts across the trail #3 loop and back into trail #3. If you try the squeeze, expect body damage! Get out and walk it first! Back on trail #3, you go off the backside or south side of the rock field and come around to the NE side and climb some ledges and off camber rocks where the shortcut from the Squeeze meets with the trail, eventually connecting back to trail #1, (turn right), back onto trail #1, just before Wildman's Crack, going in the opposite direction and back to camp.
Snake Pit
To get to the Snake Pit Loop from Trail #2. After you go through the Slot, the trail curves around to the left and climbs through a sort of rock notch. As you pass through this notch there will be a trail to the extreme left with a filter ledge. This leads over and down into Snake Canyon which is a rock ditch that curve sharply left and right and drops into a hole with a ledge at the end. A fun technical trail that is a short quick loop back into trail #2. Be careful or there will be carnage!
North Wall Trail
This is probable the hardest spot to get through at the Crack's. You go past Gate Rock and follow the trail around the bowl to the North side and climb up out of the bowl over a series of rock slabs and ledges. You then cross over a ledge that will high center most vehicles unless you pay attention to what the guy in front of you did. This puts you in the Bath Tub. Follow the tire tracks up and out over the series of cracks and ledges. You can get lots of airtime here and be careful you don?t roll over. Next are the Flex Crevasse and a couple of ridges and then you come back out right by the campsite.
Lots of fun!
