Are you "really" prepared to carry a gun? Think again!
#1
I don't know when this ABC news episode aired but it's very interesting.

The YouTube title for this video is called, "Proof that Concealed Carry permit holders live in a dream world"

It's obvious to me that it's just an attack by Anti-Gun people, trying to prove to the government why we should not allow CCW carry on college campuses. It may just be that, but it's hard not to notice some of the points they make.

There is some good information regarding why you need to practice and practice HARD.

1. Can you hit your intended target?
2. Can you draw your firearm while you take cover or move to an advantage point?
3. You may be a marksman, but can you react fast enough at a moving target while under stress?
4. Are you "too focused" on the aggressor, where you are not noticing innocent bystandards (tunnel vision).
5. Are "your" tactical skills exaggerated to the point where your confidence may actually a false one?

The videos are informative, but it also can scare some some people into "not" carrying a firearm. This may also be the intent of the video creator.

As much as this video seems to be Anti-Gun propoganda, the results from the test subjects are most likely true.

The bottom line is: Once you make the conscience decision to carry a firearm for the purpose of defense, you need to take it seriously. Mistakes here will be VERY costly! Lives are at stake! We also live in the Land of Lawyers. You make a shooting mistake and you can expect to have a criminal and/or civil suit on your hands.

My friends always ask why I spend so much time at the shooting range.
My wife gets bent out of shape when I spend over $800/yr on ammunition.
My dad wonders why I been teaching my boys to shoot since they were 4yo.
My mom just said, "did you really buy guns as Christmas gifts this year for your wife and son?"

My answer is always the same. "It's better to be prepared, than scared".

If my skills are not just a "little" better than the aggressor(s) then lives are at risk, including mine.

So, watch this video. May it be the encouragement you need to get you to the shooting range more often, and burn through an extra box of ammo or two.

I had seen that before and it was good to watch it again. I have no doubt that my skills are not up to par if I was put in that situation. :(

After watching this, I started having a little doubt about myself, too! It's been 3 months since I ran any tire drills on myself. I've been too busy coaching others that I've sorta let my skills suffer. Depending on how I feel (fighting the FLU) I may make a run out to the desert on Monday and run several scenario drills.

Did anyone notice the one big mistake all of the shooters did? Besides taking and staying in cover, they all reached for their guns FIRST!

General Tactics:

1. Take cover! Reduce your size and exposure to oncoming fire. If possible, create distance between you and the shooter.
2. Draw your firearm and make ready. Return fire, when ready.
3. Place distinctive shots at your target so you can incapacitate them. Only hits count and you won't have enough ammo to waste.

agree one hundred percent. i was a gmg in the navy and we used to have our ships self defense force team do these drills in port every couple months. we worked with marines and seals. it is a must to aways hone your skills and train on a regular basis. target range is one thing real life is another. it is no joke when you are shot at your body is jacked up to an extreme level. taking cover gives you a chance to a- get your gun out and b- bring your stress level down a notch or two. i have seen marksmen on the range bite it in live drills on the ship. it is not easy or everybody would be able to defuse a situation.

First of all, the whole video is crap to defend against CCW.

With no more than target shooting, what you you rather do? run for cover without being armed, or run for cover,

draw your weapon and defend yourself?

Most video's I have seen of perps who suddening realize someone else is armed beside them, run like hell. Just

being familiar with a firearm, I'd rather try to defend myself.

I will say, I have been shot at and have shot back and your level of training will decide your outcome in most cases.

So train like your going to react when the SHTF.
