Browning A-bolt 30-06
#1
I have been looking for a 30-06 for a little while. I like Browning and the A-bolt seemed to fit the bill as a well made hunting gun under the $700 mark. Bass Pro has the gun I have been looking at on sale under $500. Problem... I have $225 in gift cards to Cabelas... Well come to find out Cabelas will price match. Score! Well I had some bills come up that took a chunk out of my gun savings. I was fine with passing on the gun as there is always another sale.
Then I get the mail today... I think cabelas is taunting me. I got a 10% off card in the mail. So I have $225 in gift cards the gun I want is on sale for 479 and Browning has a deal going that they will rebate the sales tax up to 8%... the gun would cost me about$200 out of pocket when all said and done.

I have 2 days to work some crazy over time… Curse you Cabelas!

My wife doesn't let me go to Cabelas anymore.

Crap, dude. That's a good deal. I'll float you the $200 if you want. Hate for you to lose out on a good deal. I was just at Cabela's today picking up ammo and struggling to avoid the gun counter. :)

Nope when I called apparently I wasn't clear on the Browning A bolt. I gave them the model I was looking at but theirs had something different about it. So when I got there they wouldn't match the ad I looked at a few guns and found a Ruger M77. 308 I liked. It was going to be on sale next week. They wouldn't honor the price early and told me to come back. Went bass pro paid more but got good customer service and the orig gun I wanted.

Gun is cleaned oiled and has a scpope on it. I will be at the range with my dad and mom on sat checking the spread pattern on the shot guns for our turky hunt. Since we will already be there we plan on doing some long gun range time also. Never used a scope before so it should be a good laugh as I try and sight it in.

Spread pattern? Is it a 12ga or a .308? LOL. A quick way to get on paper is to do a eyeball bore site.

Check that the rifle magzine is removed and the barrel us unloaded.
Remove the bolt from the rifle.
Prop the rifle up and point the muzzle at something at a distance.
Using your eyeball, look through the barrel and see what's in the center of your view.
Now, dial your crosshairs on the scope to match that "thing" you saw in the center of your view.
Obviously, you don't want the rifle to move during the entire process. It's best to have a 2nd person hold the rifle or strap it into a rifle rest.

At 25 yards, you should be on paper. Dial in from there.

If you need, I have a rifle rest, a bore-sight kit, and a cross-hair leveler. All the stuff to get the scope to be 100% true with the rifle's action. You can borrow them.

One more thing. If memory serves me right, that barrel has a 1:10" right hand twist. It should favor 165-175 grain bullets. If you shoot less weight bullets, you will most likely see your groups open up at 200 yards. Most .308 rifles like 168gr and 175gr bullets.

Yeah I didnt make that clear when I posted.
Will be at the range anyway doing some shot gun work and will then head over and shoot the 30-06
