AZ Forest Closures 2011

I remember years ago there were 2 G&F officers up here on the rim, but they built a new complex down there on Greenway.
My son is a Forest Service LEO and he was supposed to get his new truck last October, but they can't even find out where it is!
The truck he has now is broken most of the time and he has to ride with another officer most days cause they can't keep it fixed.
Actually the Forest Service is getting the forest thinned one fire at a time.:) Where the environmentalist wont let them log or thin
the stupid public is thinning it with fires cause they don't understand the rules apply to THEM.
The forest is closed up under the rim and Fossil creek is closed. That didn't keep hikers from moving the closed signs and
driving in and parking and hiking down there. The closure didn't mean them I guess. Then they call the LEO's hard cases
when they ticket them and tow their vehicles.
As far as I am concerned, all you people down they need to stay home and learn some respect for nature and other
people's property. I have had enough of this stupidity with dumb idiots who don't care!

You do realize you count as one of "you people down they <there> need to stay home", right?

Yup, but I couldn't care less because my campsite looks better when I leave it then it did before I got there.

You would sacrifice a chance to keep the woods safe for a weekend of fun? How typically a "get mine now" mentality. How typically
modern American. No wonder we got the likes of Obama.

lol wow. That was a little uncalled for. Seeing as how this isn't VJC, I'll go ahead and end this conversation. Not even worth the argument anymore.

I think you need to step back bill... re read his post again. Seeing I have known you almost 10 years now I understand your passion for the high country and why you get heated. Avis didn't say anything wrong.

Bob, I don't mean to pick on Avis, I'm just using him to make a point on people's attitudes. Sorry if I hurt your feelings Avis,
I'm sure you an all right guy. I sure you feel the same way I do about these idiots. We have had the Cracks basically shut down
because people can't obey some simple rules. Like "stay on the marked trails". The forest is CLOSED, entrances are blocked,
and idiots think the signs don't mean them. I have seen this all my life. You have to have rules and simple laws for everyone because
the idiots can't comprehend common sense, and they still break them. OK, Sorry Avis, Bob, I am now off of my soapbox.:)

No feelings hurt, but do not ever compare me to the idiots who are ruining our forests.

Wow.........

I bet 0% of the "idiots" in question are on this board....... Its the old 1 bad apple to cliche.......

This board is one of the few boards that makes it a point to actually respect the high country as well as all lands available to us.

The governement officials, the forest service in this case, makes decisions based on the "potential" risk to ALL that may be enjoying the forest....... if they lock out 100% of the public they stand a better chance of keeping the 1 or 2 idiots from F'ing up OUR forest to enjoy at at later date when it is safe to do so.....

I just got back from an awesome trip to the Cracks and YES we did alot, and I mean ALOT of "preventative maintenance" to the trails to make sure a hot exhaust or anything else did not start the next big mess up there........ Stay tuned for a trip report. :p

Coronado's closed now too

Tucson, AZ (June 6, 2011) โ€“ Due to extreme fire danger and concern for public safety, the Coronado National Forest will be closed to all public use beginning at noon on Thursday, June 9 (36 CFR 261.52).

The temporary closure applies to all Ranger Districts of the Coronado National Forest, and includes Visitor Centers, campgrounds, picnic areas, trails, summer cabins, organization camps and all other public uses. District Rangers may authorize use for specifically permitted activities through Special-Use Permits. Violation of the closure is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.

On the Santa Catalina Ranger District, the Catalina Highway (Mt. Lemmon Highway) will remain open during daylight hours so visitors may access Summerhaven atop Mt. Lemmon. Vehicles may not stop along the highway, and must use it strictly to access Summerhaven. The road will be closed at night.

This closure will be lifted when significant moisture is received to reduce the wildfire threat to manageable levels.
