I have owned both the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito.

PROS
- Light Gun. 15.1oz.
- Light weight trigger pull.
- Two barrel lengths are offered.
- Both barrels are threaded for flash hider for suppressor. (big plus for me).
- Spare magazines run about $22 each.
- Very concealable.
CONS
- Swapping between barrels is a pain in the butt (but at least, it's an option).
- Accuracy kinda sucks. It's not a target gun, even with the longer target barrel.
- Grip is small, awkward for people with large hands (it comes with 3 interchangeable backstraps, but none worked for me.
- Quite a bit smaller than it's big brother the P99. 25% smaller.
- Base gun starts at $320.
- Gun won't fire without a magazine inserted (could be a PRO, but it was a CON for me).
- The accessory rail is small/short, so you're limited to only a compact laser.

PROS
- It's a SIG!
- Has a decocker.
- Base gun is available for under $300.
- Grip is a good size and fits well even with large hands.
- More accurate than the Walther P22, because of the slightly longer barrel.
- Has a sturdy accessory rail for lights and lasers.
- Only slightly smaller than the big brother the P226. 10% smaller.
- Heavier gun. But the weight makes if feel like a "real gun". 24.6oz. (this may be a CON instead of a PRO... you decide).
CONS
- Magazines are $37 each!
- Threaded barrel cost more and upgrading it later is expensive.
- Trigger pull is TERRIBLE! Only a few good gunsmiths can rework the trigger ($69).

Originally, I had the Walther P22 with both barrels. I ended up selling it because the accuracy stunk (even with the longer barrel). It also had feeding issue after 4 magazines of QUALITY CCI Mini-Mags. I ended up selling it and purchased the Sig Mosquito. Man, that trigger pull sucks ASS! However, it shoots well and the feeding/jamming issue was resolved in previous models.
Both guns are nice. Both are vastly different in feel and performance. Depending on what your mom wants to use it for one may fit her needs more.
Note: The Walther also had their bout with feeding/jamming. It took 3 production corrections for them to finally get it right. Sig only took one.
Improving performance on either gun.
- The key is to choose the correct ammo. Copper Coated High Velocity. The CCI Mini-Mags work the best in both guns.
- Avoid shooting bulk ammo. They are dirty and will gunk up either gun very FAST.
- It's a 22LR. Like any 22LR, you need to clean it after EVERY shooting event. Failure to do so will cause build-up of lead and power residue, mixed with moisture from the air = FAILURE!
