Yeah, I got to right there in the bottom right corner where you can see my Jeep climbing the Google obstacle.

Thanks Mike #1! LOL
#23
So were you going to the left or the right of the big rock that dvides the wash?
#24
the right, but it failed before I even made the obstacle on the approach to it... and I was at the waterfall right BEFORE the one I think you are asking about (the HUGE boulder in the middle of the trail) maybe 100 ft prior to the area you are asking about.

if you watch my little video clip again, there is a place where Geoff has turned around and is coming DOWN a waterfall. That's the exact place my day ended... getting ready to go up the right side of that obstacle.
#25
Wow OK, the waterfall before the big rock is like a bowl that the more to th eright you go the tougher it becomes....... I got all wadded up in there then went to the left........ went to the left at the big rock in the middle of the wash as well. I was in survival mode. :D

Great shots Mike! I do love the B/W one. Very cool my friend... very cool.

Very cool pics as always Mike......

Alan, you really just got to where the trail got interesting. If you had to break, that was the place.
#29
Beautiful Stuff....

Its funny, in that video the trail doesn't at all look very intense until the point were they are looking at the sun! Awesome pics and video guys!
#31
You are absolutley right, Bill, based upon that video and those pictures....

remember, though, that the guy videoing (me) and the guy taking pictures (Mike) were both in the same rig that had the fluke breakage before they reached any of the obstacles that make Die Hard, well... Die Hard. We died about 100 ft short of the hard stuff, so the video and pics only reflect the "getting to the main obstacles" portion of the trail. After we broke, we had to turn around and drive back out the way we came in (which was doable in 3WD) because we couldn't sniff the rest of the trail with only 3 wheels.

Here is a nice little look at what we missed...

Please don't use my video as a guage as to the toughness of this trail. By no stretch did I actually complete and run the hard stuff on on Die Hard. Think of this of the video as "light Sunday wheelin' in the desert". LOL

I think an XJ would have made it
#33
Geoff did. :) He's stock, right?

I know XJ's that have made it. Ryan did it several times, Woody (of course), Geoff would have been fine, etc... it's doable with a group that's run it before and who can spot you.

Im 99% sure that Ryan did it in the YJ not the xj
I killed a front 30 Jack killed 2 or 3 front 30's... Its not an easy trail.
#35
I agree with you... as much as I love my XJ and feel tremendous confidence in it, I wouldn't take it on Die Hard while it still had a D-30 (chromoly axle shafts or not), nor trust my "but it's a SUPER 35!" rear either (jab an Joe from a different conversatin today on FB). I walked on ahead to the gnarly stuff and I cannot wait to get my 60 back up and clear so i can take another try at it (for real this time!).

I know Geoff has a D60, I thought Woody did too, which is why I used them as examples.

Actually, (just for fun), I'm going to take a pic of my D30 axle shaft for the XJ and compare it to the same D60 shaft out of the TJ lying on my work bench right now. I've seen other pics, but I need to see it in person for comparison.

LOL with my recent love of driving 25 MPH on the side of the freeway due to Death Wooble, my friend Mike Ehler (Mike #2 in the above story), has bestored this sticker upon me as a birthday gift.
