Fall Bear 2010
#1
Here are some pictures from my fall bear scouting/hunting trips. Sorry there is no long write up, so just enjoy not having to exercise your brain and look at the pictures. ;)

SPOILER ALERT: We did not get a bear (almost though....more on that later) but we plan on returning early Nov.

Camp 1, set up completely in the dark.

Spruce Tea, Bear Grylls style.

Oh yeah, he's a biggin.

Night two, new camp. The hobo fort.

The actual hunt (this past weekend).

Camp 1, set up in the dark again.

30-06 and 12ga. with slugs for back-up.

Shed antler my buddy found

Then what I found!:)) That smile is pure joy...kind of freaky.

It honestly was not that old. My guess is that with archery elk just ending someone shot it and lost it.

Got a tip on a bear so we packed up and moved camp.

Fresh that day because it was raining. Minutes after taking this picture we spotted the black bear not 40yards from us at the water tank right where our buddy said he'd be. Not thinking clearly we didn't get out one of the calls to get him to move and allowing us a clear shot. While trying to move my buddy snapped a twig, spooking the bear and sending him running. Not 5 minutes after he ran we heard gunshots coming from the area he headed too. Currently that unit is and at the time was open only to black bear. We had him! Through the scope my buddy estimated him to be between 200-250lbs.

Bummed out and with sun going down we found another known bear tank and set up camp about 3/4 mile away. Sadly our little lean-to was not to be used as a thunderstorm rolled in, forcing us to both eat and sleep in the cab.

The morning hunt. Called for well over 45 min and saw absolutely nothing. Waited till 10:30 and didn't see anything other than a blue-jay. We headed back to camp, cooked up a late breakfast, honed our shooting skills with some sun-faded clay pigeons, had lunch and used our bags as pillows as we napped beneath the swaying pines and warm sun. Once we awoke we packed up camp and headed home much earlier than expected. More hunt stories and info to come so stay tuned!

Dozing while bear hunting!

I love the one of you with the antlers on your backpack. Great pics and even better adventure. Wish you had gotten one, but I am glad you were able to get out.
