I will never (unless asked by one of you for help) will pull a tans and do a swap. Worst weekend ever. Between all the time, parts, tools, and other stuff... I did not save any money and am out a weekend.
I started on Sat at 5 am and got done at 5:40pm on Sunday.
To pull the Trans out of a 2001 Ram 1500 you must disconnect 1/2 the truck... or so it felt like. I had to pull the exhaust completely off so that we could drop the trans and get it out from under the truck. However you need to remove 3 O2 sensors and one is wedged under a body seam. Once you get that off (mine got broke...) you need to remove the starter but the cooler lines for the trans are clipped to the top bolt and there is no room to get on the bolt...
No on to the fun stuff... The cross member for the trans is set (more like wedged) between the frame rails. After we took out all the bolts I had to beat and pry it out of the frame. Then we has to find a midget to get to the top bolt of the trans (called Alan be he didn't pick up :)) ) since none were to be found I got it done... Once we got the trans and t-case out we called it quits for the day (13 hours later)
Sun: I had called Kyle (former emp of AO and life saving friend) on Sat night and asked how much to come put in my trans. I would have paid any price at that point!!!
Kyle came over and we got to work. We had to pick up some more tools and supplies. Going back in wasn't as bad as getting it out. I would still be under the truck if it had been just me.
We got done and I added up the bill... When all said and done I did not save ANY money and was out a weekend.
There are three good things that came out of this weekend.
1. I found out that I can sweat out 2 almost 3 gal of water and not have to pee at all...
2. Found I had a freeze plug going bad and changed it out
3. Did more crunches, leg lifts, and butt lifts this weekend than in all my life. My core hurts to laugh.
Nut shell : Pulled trans, it sucked. Anything that could go wrong did. I didn't save any money. I will never do it again!
