LED Tail lights on the XJ
#1
I finally got tired of buying replacement lenses for the number of times I smash out my rear tail lights on the XJ... I think I've gone through four in the last year, not counting the one Sc00by got me for Christmas a couple years back.

... so I just took them off, fabbed up a mount out of old license plates, and mounted some new LED lights. I painted the inset black as well so they blend. I'm happy with them and with them being recessed, I don't expect any more breakage from catching corners on narrow trails.

Total install time (including trimming behind the mounts and creating the mounts) 3 hours. I cut the mounts with tin snips and just mounted them with sheet metal screws. I think I'm going to leave the screws "as is" and not paint them black like the original plan. I kind of like 'em this way.

I'll get some daytime photos up in the next day or two.

Looks good alan. Did u see the set up I made for my rig a while back.

Yeah. I tried to get you to make me some, remember. LOL

I ended up not boxing it, but flush mounting it instead. I really like and it reduces my footprint on the corners by a couple of inches, so maybe I won't catch as much.

I've never seen them done like that. I like it.

Do you have auxillary backup lights?

Yes. Those are the top lights. All they had was red so I need to replace them with clear for the backup lights.
