So I found a trans on CL that is the same year but Im not sure if its from a 4x4. Does a trans need to be out of a 4x4 to fit in a 4x4 WITH OUT doing mods to it? Can't seem to find the answer online.

Found the answer... Its all in how you ask google
46re is the same no matter what it is installed in whether it is a 1500 or 2500... A 2wd and 4wd are going to be different so you can't not use a 2wd directly in place of a 4wd...
As far as what I ready the output shaft is different or has some sort of adapter. Don't know how hard it would be to switch. I searched for "converting to 4wd" dodge ram

Thanks. I am going to keep my eye open for a good used 4x4 trans. Will start calling the junk yards at lunch.

I got my TH350 for the '76 from a guy listed in the paper. Rebuilds himself. $300 and apparently had the shift kit TC. 3 speed auto that barked into 2nd.
