Wine /Beer help
#1
OK you drinkers... I need help picking out a drink for Dinner on Sat night. We are having Asian bbq salmon.
What would complement the meal. Some of the people are beer drinkers others are wine kinda peeps. All of them are cooks and foodies...

Im not a drinker so Im at a loss.

hmm a riseling would go well with salmon. If you goto AJ's or Costplus World Market they have a guy on staff who can pair wines for your meal too. They might have some good reccomendations

general rule of thumb for wine, red wines red meat, white wines white meat

Have yet to try sake, Im not a wine person... & Im not a fish eatter either... So Im at a loss.
For beer, IPA's arent bad some are a cloudy yellow - darker yellow in color & from my experience have a light fruit note.
Dunkle's & stouts are more earthy & can also be bitter too.

Sorry I couldnt give more info on the wine stuff.
Hope you have a good time :)

From what I found in my cookbook, Chardonnay goes well with salmon and a Shiraz goes well with an Asian BBQ sauce and sake would work well, too. If you still have trouble finding something, you can always stop by Trader Joe's or another place with a large selection and ask the worker peeps. They can probably pick out a bottle or two quickly.

Personally, I'd recommend a Hefeweizen for beer - something with a bitof citrus and spice to complement the Asian sauce without overpowering the salmon. Come to think of it - Shock Top would be a good choice.

For wine, we like a Petit Syrah with salmon done Asian style. Chardonnay would be a good safe traditional fish wine.

Bottom line: drink what ya like, with what you like. I'm a big red wine and IPA guy. Doesn't matter how light the meal I'll have an IPA or a Zinfindel.
