Help Choosing New Shocks
#1
Ok, so after a few hours of working on my Jeep today, I found out that all of my shocks are completely shot.

I have a '95 ZJ with a 4.5" Iron Rock lift. What would be the best way to go as in terms of new shocks? I can get anything from NAPA for a fraction of the price, so price really isn't too much of an issue. I just don't want to spend more money than I need to, so I'd like to know what the best performance/price is.

I'm going to pick them up tomorrow afternoon, so speedy replies are preferred.

The weirdest thing is that the lift was installed about a year and a half ago, and it hasn't been heavily used off road...

Thanks for your help!

Bilstein 5100 would be decent for your setup. Not too expensive either

I'll keep those in mind. I've been looking them up online; do they usually average $70 each (not that that's too expensive, I just want a ballpark)? Do you have any other ideas in case NAPA doesn't carry them?

I liked my 5150's which are very similar to what offroadaz suggested but i'm switching to King's in the rear to match the front. I'm not sure what napa carries but i doubt they have a great selection of the better brands. I have discovered that you get what you pay for when it comes to shocks.
I ran the adjustable ranchos (RX9000's i think?) in the past when the truck was closer to stock. They were ok for a white body and they ran about $80 each. The adjustablility was kinda handy.

Neither do I, that's why I need more options.

I have the Rubicon Express shocks. Bought them new 2 years ago with the Rubicon Express lift. I'm pretty sure both the fronts are blown out. I've just been dragging my butt on getting them replaced. I was on the fence on trying to warranty replace them if RE would even do that. If I buy new shocks, I was going to look hard at the Bilstein 5150. I've seen a lot of good reviews on those. The RE shocks were $68 each new when I bought them and the Bilstein are in the same price ballpark.

Well, I didn't get around to buying them today, but I am fairly certain I will tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion, but I can get new parts for dirt-cheap from NAPA, so I think I'm going to buy from them.

I researched the shocks I have now, and found that they're Rough Country Hydro Shocks. Does anybody know why all four of them would fail so quickly? Like I said, they were installed about a year and a half ago, but I think they were bad from the moment I bought the Jeep and the bushings just finally wore through and caused issues. They literally have no pressure in them at all.

Too bad I don't have the receipt; they're under warranty, too...

same thing with me. my rough countries came with my lift and from the get i was not impressed. i have the nitro 9000 on now and it is night andday. there was no pressure at all in them. my stock gabriels were better then them. i got what i paid with the budget lift and now i am adding the improvments as i go. i really like my lift but the shocks really sucked

Sorry it's been awhile...

The main problem was actually my front track bar, so I replaced it with a Kevin's Off Road conversion. I still need shocks, but at least I can drive it for now. I'm still thinking I want the Bilsteins, though.
