Mounting Gauges on the A-Pillar
#1
I am planning on adding 2 new gauges. One for water temperature and one for transmission temperature.

I want to do this because:
1. I don't trust the in-dash water temp. gauge to be accurate.
2. After replacing the radiator, I ran the transmission lines direct to my aux. cooler and back, bypassing the radiator for cooling.
3. I want to better monitor systems while offroad and towing.

So, I think I have the gauges I'm going to buy picked out. Couple of questions though.

Here is the pillar gauge mount I was looking at. The application guide shows it will fit 1988-2000 XJ's. Why not my 2001? Anybody able to confirm they didn't change the A pillar on 2001?

Here is the water temp. gauge I was looking at. Can I tap it into the existing sensor and run both the factory dash gauge and the aux. water gauge off the same sensor in the thermostat housing? Do I have to add another temp sensor? If I hooked the new one into the factory sensor location, I'd think it would throw a CEL from disconnecting the factory setup. Plus, I'd like to have both to compare against each other anyway.

Here is the transmission temp. gauge I was looking at. I was planning on installing that in a T on the output line from the transmission to my cooler vs. drilling a hole in my pan.

Here's another option for tapping into the trans temp line:
