How is one supposed to get light protection with a set up like this? I was thinking this one has the bar above the lights vs the bar below so that would add some... I'm at a loss of how/where to put lights on my jeep.

this

plus it sticks up really high. Looks like 1980's style jeep

Cool design... but if a tree branch hits it... it'll tear into / jack up your rain gutter.
#8
Well... ideas then? I'm at a loss as to where to put lights :(

No. I'm not a fan of gutter mounts, plus that is ugly as hell. Do you have the stock roof rack holes? ...Off to look up pictures of your XJ.

I have most of them left, I had the rack bolted in through those (bad idea) so a couple of them went away when I pulled the rack off and welded the roof back together.. I can go take a picture of the roof if you want

Do you have the roof liner still installed inside? What if you just bolted something down through the roof? I'd rather go that route than the gutter mounts. Look at my rack how I built the light mounts into the front also.

Yes it is installed, dosen't have to be though. Most of my interior is already missing.. whats one more thing. lol So your saying just bolt lights straight onto the roof? I think that'd look funny... and not real big on drilling more holes through my roof

No, I was picturing making some sort of light bar like that, but trying to figure out how to mount it without using gutter mounts. The lights themself would still bolt to the tabs on the bar, but it would mount the roof.

Well the only the factory mounts I have like that are all in the back.. there is nothing up front at all. I guess I could make something like that and bolt it through up front, but the lights are still unprotected (even more then before) Personally, I don't want anything on my roof.. but I don't know where else to put lights. Unless I buy/build a front bumper.. which I'd love to do, but don't have the money

Look up yetti's light bar maybe something like that. He has pics in his profile
