Anybody have preference of a Friday vs Saturday night? Cause it don't matter to me.. 11th or 12th.

I'm only available this weekend. Then, I'm booked solid the entire month of March and into mid-April. I've got spring break, weddings, and I'm the technical advisor / weapons master for a movie that is being partially filmed here in AZ.

Awesome! Great car camp.
Besides the other stuff we talked about:
Your dog will NOT make this hike.
Put your food up - Bears.
You HAVE to want that last uphill dirt scramble part. (don't let Chelcee blame me for that shit)
Check out the cave halfway up on the way down.
Once at the ruins, if you edge along that elevation downstream, you will come to a few more.

Do you have any more questions?

Yup, read many times it's not a dog hike... between the terrain and rattle snakes.

My Yeti is bear proof :)

I've seen pictures up to the point of being below the ruins, but never how to get up to the actual ruins but haven't read anything real good about it lol

Cave on the left or right coming back down?

I assume best camping spot is near the corral by the creek?

Good man.
You should see where to start scrambling up. I think no one take pictures because it's hard to let go of the roots and dirt to get your camera out. I looked and I only have a photo of Noel on the ground laughing after falling on her but on the way down.
If you think you'll need it, download the gps track from HAZ. You'll only need it for the up to the ruins.

There are a few great camping spots right past the sign before the Devil's Chasm culvert (left side of road).

Anyone want to do Coves a night during the long weekend?
#669
Maybe. Jonathan really wants to go hike somewhere on Friday.
He wanted ruins but didn't remember it's a 3:45 drive and his roommate can't camp one of those nights.

I think we're going to head out there Saturday night if anyone can make it. Probably leave Chandler around 6 or 7

Sounds like fun plans all the way around. We're doing Christmas lights on Friday, chilling on Saturday, and I fly out again for the week on Sunday.

Alright... got a few more people this time round... meeting at the baja gas staion at 7 Friday night, then headed to Cove 1. You all know you want to come out..

Will be staying north of Kohls ranch in a cabin this weekend... Friday - Monday. If anyone wants to come up and play in the snow Saturday or Sunday, let me know! should be plenty :)

Noel asked if we could do a backpack this weekend. It's still cold too far from the desert floor so we're hiking in to camp a couple nights and fish on the Verde. Should be around Devil's Hole area. I miss that spot and since red tape still holds up the 42 opening up, we foot it. We'll have to river cross a few times so we're wet prepared. It's where we tubed to along time ago: http://higherground4x4.com/return_to_jeep_island.htm

Andrew, who I think some of you have met bought his first 4wd a couple weeks ago so we are headed out Saturday to break it...in.. Nothing hard, just running up 4peaks and then taking El Oso until we decide to go home. Should get us in the pine trees and will be a easy trail for a first timer. As always, any and all of you are welcome if you want to join! There will be a few rigs there but, it's not like we're rock crawling so shouldn't be a problem. Meet up at 4 peaks parking area at 8am if you're interested.
