Coming to Arizona
#1
My daughter and I will be visiting Arizona the first week of August
to visit Taliesin West and the Grand Canyon, among other sites.
A veteran Jeep owner in Florida, I'll be renting a Wrangler 4WD
in Las Vegas and basically driving a big circle through Phoenix,
Scottsdale, Show Low, Painted Desert, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon,
and back to Vegas. If I could impose on the kindness and good
will of a fellow four-wheel drive enthusiast for a favor, I would
deeply appreciate any suggestions on
off-road adventures of the easy/medium variety from these areas.
(I don't want to try anything more difficult because the vehicle
will be unknown to me, we'll be alone, and I won't be carrying my
normal safety
gear!) Any links to maps, ghost towns, ruins, etc., would also
be most appreciated.

I think you in advance now, and I'll follow up with a note of thanks
with photos attached upon our return to Florida.

Sincerely,

Welcome
Sedona is always a favorite spot to bring out of towners. 2 main trails on red rock pretty much right inside of town. The 89A through there would connect you to Flagstaff from the I-17.
Most of the Ghost towns I know of, I wouldn't take a rental on, but Sedona has Jeep rental places they allow on the rock.
Broken Arrow is the better of the two (the other is Soldier's Pass) and that way you won't run too much into the 115 degree heat we'll be having down here. Keep in mind, there will be a good chance of rain around that time too.
Check out Oak Creek Canyon while you are there too.
Nena at Sedona Jeep School's site would be a good resource for that area. Let her know you heard it from us.

Painted Desert and Monument Valley are good A-listers for scenery. Virgil's been out there a bit.

Let us know if there's a specific area you are interested in and we'll try to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the Q's. Hope you enjoy your trip :cool)
